I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at New York Life (Chicago, IL) in Mar 2011
Interview
HR Rep called me a few weeks after my online application and invited me in to discuss possible career options. Set the interview for the following afternoon. Interview was one on one in the HR reps office. She told me that it would take about 30 minutes and was the first of 3 potential interviews. The second would last about an hour and a half and I don't remember what she said about the third. Interview went pretty well, but I realized that it was not a job that would fit right now. 100% commission, calling friends and family, getting referrals, and extensive prospecting. She gave a really brief company history presentation which included a quick breakdown of commission schedules and pointed out that you continue to get paid every year that a life insurance policy is renewed, creating an ongoing pipeline of residual income. I stopped her there, because I have been sold this story before. I thanked her for her time and said that this was not a position that was going to work out.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at New York Life
Interview
Don't waste time with this company. This gave me a wrong interview time, I showed up but no one is there, I can't reached out to anyone. IT WASTE MY WHOLE DAY! After almost 5 hrs of the scheduled meeting time, someone finally replied me with only one sentence, they never scheduled me for that time, I provided them with evidences about the meeting time, they just made up a meeting time no one ever told me. Very unprofessional.
phone interview for screening, they ask about your work authorization situation and offer a description of the job. Also explained the compensation structure. not very hard and can be very short.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
do you hold work authorization without limitation?
The interview process is three steps and the first is typically getting to know you, then it's about career development and lastly compensation. The process is generally laid back and all about learning about the company.
