      Associate Director Interview

      Jan 31, 2026
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Macquarie
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. I interviewed at Optus (Macquarie) in Jan 2026

      Interview

Unorganised, rescheduled many times and last minute. First HR, hiring manager then final panel unless one of the panel isnt there then you will have to go again. Hierarchical, condescending interviewer (directors - credit risk area). One sided interview, 45 minutes of grilling questions (in which you never seem to get the answer right). Only 3 minutes to ask them questions about the culture. Each interview lasted 45 minutes. They dont prioritise hiring (multiple reschedules or just not show up) nor value candidates’ time and effort. Dont waste time.

      Question 1

“At your level, why do you think you are ready to be an executive?” (i was a senior manager within the paygrade)

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Optus in Apr 2023

      Interview

Lengthy process with limited communication between when an interview was held and then finding out if I had made it to the next round. I assumed on at least 2 occasions I hadn't been successful given how long it took to come back to me. In total there were 4 interviews spanning almost 3 months. Each interview itself was pretty straight forward in terms of questions around professional and technical skills. I ended up finding out I wasn't the successful candidate after directly contacting Optus to say that given the length of time that had passed that I assumed I wasn't successful but if I could please get some feedback to help me with any future opportunities. I enjoyed the interview process as a whole as everyone I met was very friendly and wanted to help you do your best in the interview. I would have enjoyed working in this team. But the lack of communication and feedback just let things down, particularly after all the effort that went into preparing for each meet and greet. I also would have liked to have been given feedback directly from the hiring manager who I met with twice and who I felt that I had a good rapport with off the back of some good and exciting discussions about the product and team growth.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Standard interview questions around why Optus, what I knew about the product, give feedback on the product, stakeholder management etc.
