      Software Sales Development Manager Interview

      Feb 21, 2025
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at PatSnap (London, England) in Jan 2025

      Interview

My experience with the PatSnap interview process was extremely disappointing. After five back-and-forth phone calls with their recruitment agency, discussing my candidacy and the interview process, I was provided with a 12-page brief outlining the structure of the interview, expectations, and key activities. The interview was structured as a group session with approximately 12 candidates on a Teams call, and we were informed that it would last around two hours. Interview Structure: The day was meant to follow this format: • Group discussion on graduates, sales, the technology sector, and PatSnap. • Self-introduction exercise. • Group exercise designed to assess teamwork, leadership, persuasion, and problem-solving in a sales-focused business challenge. We were also given specific questions to prepare for, including: • Why graduates? • Why sales? • Why technology/software and why PatSnap? All of this was clearly outlined in the briefing document, and I prepared accordingly. The Reality of the Interview: Despite the structured outline, the actual execution of the interview was poorly handled. The first three questions alone took 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete, largely due to the recruiter repeatedly restating the questions rather than allowing a natural flow of discussion. The self-introduction segment then took up the remainder of the two-hour slot, meaning we had yet to start the group exercise—which was meant to be the primary assessment component of the day. However, upon moving into breakout groups, myself and two other candidates were immediately informed that we did not get the job and were asked to leave. To be clear, at this point, all we had done was answer three questions and introduce ourselves. We were given no explanation as to what we had done wrong and were not allowed to continue with the rest of the scheduled activities that were explicitly stated in the written brief. There was no debrief or opportunity to understand the reasoning behind our elimination. To be clear a debrief was stated in the written document. I was told I would receive a follow-up call, which never happened. Lack of Professionalism and Poor Candidate Experience I find it highly unprofessional and inappropriate to reject candidates publicly, in front of others, without allowing them to complete the interview process they were invited to. I requested feedback multiple times but received no response. Even after escalating my request to HR, I was told it had been forwarded, yet still, I heard nothing back. After three attempts, it became clear that they were not willing to provide any constructive feedback. Final Thoughts To be frank, the lack of respect for applicants and blatant rudeness displayed during this process is unacceptable. Not allowing candidates to complete the explicitly outlined structure of the day, rejecting them in front of others, and then failing to provide any follow-up communication reflects poor recruitment practices and a serious disregard for applicants' time and effort. This was a huge waste of time, and I would strongly caution others about engaging with this unprofessional and disorganised recruitment process.
