      Claims Adjuster Trainee Interview

      Dec 24, 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Detroit, MI
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Progressive Insurance (Detroit, MI) in Dec 2021

      Interview

The progression of the hiring process was as follows: Nov. 12, 2021.....Applied Nov. 12, 2021.....Received email invitation to take employee assessment Nov. 17, 2021.....Completed Assessment Nov. 18, 2021.....Received email invitation for video interview Nov. 24, 2021.....Video interview completed Nov. 29, 2021....Received email inviting me to schedule formal virtual interview with leadership Dec. 7, 2021.......As per scheduled, virtual panel interview was conducted by 2 managers at 12:30pm; went 15 min over & ended around 2:15pm Dec. 7, 2021.......Received call around 5:30pm from HR with verbal offer w/tentative start date of Jan 10, 2022, which was immediately followed by email w/Offer Letter. Also received email to begin background check through HireRight Dec. 8, 2021........HireRight begins background check Dec. 11, 2021.....Confirmed through periodic check of HireRight site, that background check was complete & results sent to Progressive for "adjudication"- which is essentially them approving the results Dec. 13, 2021.....Received confirmation email in the evening advising I passed background check (of course) & therefore contingent offer was updated to official offer and start date of Jan. 10, 2022 confirmed I wanted to provide this detailed timeline in order to show that, although many people will feel the hiring process is long, to me it moved about rather swiftly. As you can see, after each step throughout the hiring process, I was not left wondering how well I did. I received an email within 24 hrs-48 hrs (only exception is during Thanksgiving holiday which was still rather quick, considering). The gap between invitations for the assessment & interviews, was due to my choosing. With each invitation, it is up to you how soon or late you decide to take assessment or have interview. I waited several days before taking assessment or scheduling interview; so much that I ended up receiving reminder emails and even in the case of the 1st virtual interview, received a warning that the invitation was about to expire. This was due to a couple of things.....my second guessing my ability to pass the interviews and also for the purpose of preparation. The assessment is NOT at all hard. I even took while my 5 year old was constantly making noise and interrupting me. I would say, your absolute concentration is important to your success for the behavioral questions, phrased in different ways for the same question, can trip you up if not careful. The math questions were easy; it's pretty much basic arithmetic (percentages, probability, etc). At the end, there is a little simulation that basically tests your attention to detail & how to control a call. Basic customer service skills are all you need for the simulation. The 1st virtual interview can feel a bit weird as it is a series of like 8 questions, pre-recorded by various personnel, asking the typical questions that you need to answer in STAR format. Anyone that has interviewed for a corporate job before should have no problem here. However, Progressive actually provides several tips & videos for you to review prior to both your initial and final interview, that provide great practice & examples for usage of the STAR method. Be careful to use the 3min allotted wisely so that you can give the best answer possible; you have 2 tries and 30 seconds prior to both tries to think. If you feel you did decent or even nailed it on first try, keep that attempt since once you request a do-over, the first attempt is deleted. The 2nd interview was scheduled for 90 min. I thought for sure this was exaggerate, but my interview ended up going over by about 15min. Though intense, I had a good feeling since the 2 ladies interviewing me, were very detailed about what the position would entail and they seemed very engaged and interested in what all I had to say. My suggestion is to SMILE, be yourself, be personable, maybe even vulnerable. If nervous, don't let it hinder you but also don't be afraid to admit it if you feel it is coming across. At least then they have a chance to understand any flaws in your delivery. This may ironically give you an edge by appearing passionate and genuinely interested in the position and company. Also, please do your research on the company (regardless of what you think you may already know), so that you can point out some things that appealed to you and again show them that you are genuinely interested. I am so excited, I must say, about this opportunity, despite how challenging all the reviews advise the position is. I already feel like part of the team as I received a call from who will be my direct supervisor, a week ago. I really appreciated that. Already, I can see Progressive is like no other company/employer out there. Give yourself a chance and apply with confidence and passion. You will be just fine. I wish you all the best of luck. Use all the resources emailed to you by Progressive, in addition to these Glassdoor reviews.

I applied and was sent an email to complete a 30 minute assessment that must be completed within 6 days. I completed the assessment about 2 hours after receiving the email. Within about 30 minutes of completing the assessment I received an email stating I was selected for a short video interview as soon as possible and submissions are reviewed in the order in which they are received. This is how far I am in the process so far.
