I applied online. I interviewed at Ross Stores (Fairfield, CA)
Interview
I applied online and got a phone call to set up an interview. For whatever reason I did not realize I had been called until a week later, and was pretty sure they'd want nothing to do with me if I called back. I tried anyway, and set up the interview. The hiring manager was very friendly on the phone, I liked her. Nobody was mad at me for my slow response and it wasn't brought up, but you probably shouldn't do that. Not my finest hour. Or week.
When I arrived in store, I asked a cashier where I should go, and was told I could sit by the door while they phoned the manager. She eventually came out, same lady from the phone, and power-walked me to a back room.
The interview was friendly. I felt a little awkward because the chair I was offered to sit on had someone else's jacket draped over the back and there were other employees in the room. I think it was maybe a break area. I was asked about my skills and experience, nothing weird or difficult. At the end I asked what traits it takes to be a good fit at Ross, and the interviewer said, "Did you notice how fast I was walking when we came in here? You have to be that fast all the time." It was a pretty fast scoot, but doable. I felt very confident that the interview went well, but in the end I was not offered the job. The interview was so friendly that I didn't feel agonized over what went wrong, so that's one thing I really appreciated.
The interview process at Ross Dress for Less consisted of meeting with a store manager to discuss my customer service experience, cash handling skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment. I was asked situational questions about handling customers, teamwork, and resolving problems. The process was straightforward and focused on my availability, work ethic, and ability to support store operations
Fast and easy! They mainly asked about my previous work experiences and my availability. They also asked what great customer service is like to you and why I would be a good fit to the company.
I was interviewed over the phone and than asked to come in person. So I could meet the team and talk to them. It wasn't too hard but it was kind of a waste as I didn't get a call back.
