I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at SpaceX in Aug 2011
Interview
The higher ups in McGregor seemed really interested in the interview process and were a great deal of help. The actual departmental managers seemed like you were just another intern and half listening usually 30 minutes late - not to good over the phone either, which pretty much summed up the rest of the internship experience. The interview process consisted of 3 phone screens not technical at all, I think mostly a cultural screen which is pretty important for the McGregor site lol.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Vague, uninspired typical interview questions -what kind of project experience do you have, do you know what SpaceX does, extracurricular activities, hands on experience, etc.
1st round phone interview, talked about portfolio and asked general behavioral questions. Talked about company projects and how I could apply my skills there. Recruiter was polite and showed genuine interest in my projects.

Question 1
Describe the hardest challenge you faced during my projects.
Completely virtual, 3 30 minute phone calls, some technical questions and some resume questions. Overall not terrible and they definitely use a standard question bank because I have gotten similar questions.

Question 1
Imagine a hot dog as a pressure vessel. Does it split laterally or longitudinally and why?
There was an initial phone call. Next, there was another phone technical interview. They gave engineering questions that were more basic but difficult if you did not take the classes.
