I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Systems Evolution in Sep 2013
Interview
This job is for a new office in New York City. The first round was a phone screen with the Managing Director who runs the office. This screen focused on cultural fit and my reasoning for wanting to join the company. I was also asked my salary expectations. The call lasted a half hour. We did not go into great detail on my resume, and much of the time was spent describing the company and the goals of the office. The last 10 minutes I asked questions regarding the role and company. At that point I was informed that the next step would be a couple of face to face interviews with NY-based consultants.
The next week I meet, in two separate sessions, two of the consultants that would be working in the NY office. We met at a local Starbucks, and again I felt that the goal was to see if I was a cultural fit. We did not go into my resume in detail, but we did talk about the challenges of working for a small start up in consulting and I was given the opportunity to talk about my experience in this area.
The second night I met with another consultant who had just started with the company. He focused on my project management experience. I was also given time to ask questions. I was told I would hear from the coordinator if I was progressing to the next step.
The three individuals I met with so far were very professional and and the interviews were a perfect mix of questioning me and selling me on the opportunity.
The last interview was a very different experience. It was a phone screen with the CEO of the company, Dan Pierce. He asked many more pointed questions about my previous work and the project management experience. I went into great detail about the scope of the project work I have done. He made it clear that the projects I have worked on were larger than what they were doing, and my experience was better suited to be a Managing Director, which was not the role to which I applied.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
What is the last large scale project you worked on? Describe your project management experience?
VERY rigorous interview process. At least 5 one hour interviews and a case study. Interviewers were pleasant and very knowledgeable, it was clear they were gauging whether or not they wanted to work along side me. So it was a balance of culture fit and skills assessment.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Interviews were more free flowing conversations. It was not a structured set of questions.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Systems Evolution (Dallas, TX)
Interview
Sei reached out to me via LinkedIn and they are upfront about the interview process that it’s long. Appreciate that they take their time for fit of the candidate. As I found out more and more
- expectation is for you to sell your own work (business development to find a project for you)
- there’s no PTO (overtly complex way to keep some funds from earnings to take time off)
- as others have mentioned this is a staff aug or contract type company - not a consulting company focused. So they take any work rather than focusing on strategic direction for the company. I could not get a good response from their leadership on the direction for the company other than more of the same.
Declined the offer from them as it would not be a good place to built a career unless you like the contract staff aug type work.
