The first few interviews went great and were very conversational. I felt very good about my ideas for progressing the company’s marketing.
Unfortunately, the last interview I had was with someone who had been there 20+ years and didn’t want to hear new ideas. She acted as if she was doing me a favor interviewing me, and she was slightly condescending throughout the interview. She even had to restart her computer in the middle of my introduction, and proceeded to blame her own team for her computer needing to restart. I don’t quite understand how her team members are to blame for her own minor error on her own laptop. To be clear, I was not upset about her computer restart; I was very understanding — yet she still blamed her own team for her error, when no one was negatively reacting. This blatantly shows how she would react to any issue in her actual role where it matters — blaming those under her, while taking credit for the team’s wins.
She also told me at the end of the interview she didn’t need to hear how I worked, just if I “got the right answer”, which is simply not what an interview is for, and I would have appreciated being told in the beginning of the interview. She also doesn’t exist anywhere online, so I was unable to read about her background and how she works with the marketing role I was applying for. This made it difficult to know what she expected in the interview.
I am glad I did not get moved further and will not be working under this VP. I’m upset because I really enjoyed my conversations with who I would have been directly reporting to, but if they have to report to someone like this, that’s a bummer and not something I want to experience. I have had my fair share of bad managers, already.
