I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Trader Joe's in Nov 2022
Interview
Interesting interview process. Three fold with phone screen, 2on1 interview, then 1on1 interview with a manager. In my honest opinion, it seemed a littler overly serious for their 'lowest' position. And if not offered, they send you a classic/pre-written and non-informational email in regards to you not getting the position + no area to ask for feedback. Even in person, I was told 'We dont do that.' Further, being a gal, I was a little offput by how they blatantly asked me 'Are you sure you can do this position? It's very physical.'

Question 1
"Can you lift, bend and stand for multiple hours at a time?" "Why Trader Joes?" "What is your favourite product?" "Tell us about a time you encountered discomfort in the workplace and how you overcame it?" "What do you value in the workplace?"
I applied online. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (SoHo) in Jan 2026
Interview
Incredibly easy and to the point. Asked about resume, prior exp, why I'm a fit, all the basics. I ended up being accepted for the role but declined due to a better offer elsewhere.

What's a challenge you dealt with in a prior role that you feel has prepared you for this job (crew)?

Simple process but you are interviewed by two people at the same time and interviews arent specifically as scheduled so it may take a few minutes to an hour for the interview the start which happens to be very brief

Question 1
What's your work availability and are you able to commit for 6 months
I applied in-person. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (New York, NY) in Feb 2024
Interview
This is a three step process once you have applied for the position. First is with the Captain and another Mate in the store. They have a list of questions (2 pages) of different scenarios that have you describe different situations. How you would handle or have handled different situations etc. If you interview well, next step is a zoom with another Captain of a different store (can be in another state) and those are further in depth about yourself and how the crew and others perceive you. Again more situational questions and how you handle them. The Captain you interviewed with will give their feedback and if all good you, you have a zoom interview with the regional who gets into more situation questions or what is your "why" at wanting to become a mate type of questions. The regional then discusses the interview with the store Captain and gives feedback and the red or green light on the promotion.
