    Software Engineer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in New York, NY
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Unbabel (New York, NY) in August 2018.

    Interview

Initial interview and a technical challenge.
The technical challenge take 2 weeks, so you need to expend a nice portion of time, but unfortunaly, when they dont want hire you, they dont give feedback. Total lack of respect for candidate time.

The challenge for backend is a fullstack challenge, what isn't the best approach.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Unbabel (Lisbon (Portugal)) in July 2017.

    Interview

Long process, met with the whole team I was going to work for - very different and detailed - they try to understand besides technical capability if you are a culture fit and at times it was a bit disorganized. Interviews are informal and casual but serious. Depends a lot on the person interview. I had one that lasted for over 1.5 hours.

    Product Manager Interview

    Anonymous Employee in Lisbon (Portugal)
    Accepted Offer
    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Unbabel (Lisbon (Portugal)) in July 2017.

    Interview

Interview was done in 3 stages - 1st was very short, just 15 mins by Skype, I would name it "adequacy check", 2nd was with peers in the office for 40-50 minutes, 3rd was with CTO + CEO for 10-15 mins each followed by the offer very shortly.

In general recruitment process is very different from my previous experience. When I read position description I was having mixed feelings - it doesn't have useless info or information pointing on hidden structural/organisational issues. It was very simple, short and clear. And when you follow the recruitment process you find it very transparent and clear - you know after each step if you pass it and what and when will be the next step. Unbabel is playing in a high league of companies you would dream to join, trying to be outstanding in everything they do and that makes them so different from other companies.

    Copywriter Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Unbabel (London, England (UK)) in September 2018.

    Interview

30 minute interview with head of HR. He was very friendly, wavering on a bit casual...a fair bit of yawning for instance. He had a list of questions, which were easy to answer. I got through the interview round, was then sent a challenge: "Write value proposition for landing page for travel". The example given was a scroll page. Got very blunt feedback on that.

    Android Developer Interview

    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Unbabel (Lisbon (Portugal)) in May 2017.

    Interview

The process took 3 months. I had a call with an Android Developer, he asked me about my career and sent to me a demo project to developer using Kotlin for android. If you have some pull-request accepted on relative project is not necessary to create a demo project. I wrote all of the features and sent to the project for the company but they answering me 2 months late (too long time) with a default answer.

"Thank you for your interest and time. We have reviewed your application and challenge and regret to inform you that we decided not to proceed with it as we fill it's not a good fit for the current position."

No feedback about my code, 12h wast of time. Think about that when you submitt your application.

    Linguist Interview

    Anonymous Interview Candidate

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Unbabel.

    Interview

I was recruited and contacted for a video interview. Then, I was offered to complete the second stage of the hiring process, which was a "linguistics challenge" to describe the importance of linguistic resources for translations, and to create a term base for their company to support customer emails. This assignment took over a day to complete with high-level detail and effort. I had questions about the project, because many parts were not related to the position, and was not provided a response to clarify this until days later. I revised my project again and sent it in. I quickly received a decline email, stating that the term base translation activity was not detailed enough, even though I am not a translator, nor did I present myself as bilingual. This position does not require an applicant to be a qualified translator, yet the assignment required native-level translations. While the experience with the recruiter was very pleasant, ultimately it was disappointing to take a full day to build the "hypothetical" resources for this company's support team, and then quickly be told that my 7-page assignment lacked detail.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Unbabel in January 2019.

    Interview

well actually I didn't really had a real interview with recruiter of Unbabel.
she booked time with me initially but later asked for rescheduling the online interview.
but since we started to get in touch from middle of Dec, lots of holidays, and she replied late and without exactly real meeting time scheduled, which means I'm the one always waiting.
very funny thing is in the beginning of Jan, she inform me: thank you for interested in us.
    Excuse me?
then after i replied the email, she said that we are still interested in your profile but with other position..
really unprofessional and it seems that they don't know how to communicate well with candidates.
very bad interview experience i had with Unbabel.
