I had several reasons for wanting to work there. I was moving into the city from a somewhat distant suburb, and wanted to escape annoying commutes. One personal goal of mine is to be able to ride a bicycle to work, and my lifestyle currently involves far more time spent driving than I have any desire to experience. My current job at another grocery chain was almost identical in terms of job requirements to the position I was applying for. And I also happen to agree with several of the philosophies Whole Foods promotes. Whole Foods also offered a higher pay than my current employer so a living wage is more easily met. Of course, I usually only got about halfway into explaining those reasons before the next question was eventually asked.
