I applied through other source. I interviewed at mthree (London, England)
Interview
An associate reached out to me over LinkedIn to tell me about the Alumni Program. We spoke over the phone, he sent me some coding tests, it seemed very interesting but I was too busy with work to engage with the interview process. I delayed it by a few weeks but he was very patient. I finally met him and other associates at their offices in Canary Wharf, where we spoke about my background and my aspirations in the finance industry. It became apparent to me that this is a comparatively easy route to a job at major investment banks (like JPMorgan-Chase), so I went home and took the coding tests very seriously.
The coding test consisted of 3 questions, each contains a problem description and you must write an algorithm to solve that problem. It's easy to write a code that solves the problem by brute force, but the runtime has a time limit of 5 seconds, so the code must be efficient. My algorithm solved all test cases on the first 2 questions but wasn't efficient enough for a few test cases in question 3. I continued working on this problem after the test was over and sent it to MThree the following day, they recognized my effort. As a result, they put me forward for an interview at Nomura. They also held a mock interview for me, sent supplementary materials and were very responsive to my questions. The Nomura interview tested me on Python, Object-Oriented programming, general problem solving and algorithms. I received very positive feedback from the interview but was rejected because they thought it would be "a waste of my talent"! Wow, I never thought I'd be flattered to get rejected XD
Anyway, MThree saw this and spoke to me about roles that were more academic in nature. Sadly, I had to terminate the interview/placement process because I decided to accept a software engineering job at a major tech company. This was not a reflection of any shortcomings on behalf of MThree, it was a reflection of the strength of the job I was offered. The internal and external interview process of MThree was very personalized and I always felt they were there for me. I spoke to 3 people during this time and they were all very helpful and personable.
