What is a Catering Manager?

A Catering Manager works for a Restaurant, Bakery or similar establishment. The primary role of a Catering Manager is to oversee kitchen staff during the process of fulfilling catering orders. During this process, a Catering Manager is responsible for assuring quality in the preparation and packaging of products, accuracy of orders, availability of ingredients and supplies, kitchen efficiency, and the safety of the staff.

Outside of a High School Diploma, there are no specific educational requirements to become a Catering Manager. However, some larger operations may insist that candidates possess a degree in management or culinary arts. Experience is by far the most beneficial asset to aspiring Catering Managers. A history of working in busy kitchens teaches organizational and resource management skills that are demanded by the job.
