SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Design Technician uses CAD software to draft mechanical parts and assemblies, while assisting with the hands-on maintenance, assembly, and testing of prototypes.
The Mechanical Design Technician will assist the Facility Manager and Engineering team with the following:
Prototyping: Programming (PLC preferred), setting up, manual mills, & lathes to create experimental parts.
Maintenance & Repair: Disassembling, inspecting, and troubleshooting failing equipment (e.g. automated machinery & basic electric).
Fabrication: Designing and machining one-off components, jigs, and fixtures when replacement parts are unavailable or obsolete.
Cross-Functional Work: Collaborating heavily with design engineers/Production Manager to validate concepts, or working alongside millwrights, electricians, welders, & Facility Manager to maintain plant operations.

ESSENTIAL TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas
- Manages the Preventative Maintenance Program
- Schedules all external PM activities with our vendors
- Works with vendors for competitive bids
- Maintains inventory levels of perishable tooling
- Orders equipment, tooling, and machinery
- Assists in manufacturing cost reduction
- Determines parts and tools required to achieve manufacturing goals
- Assist maintenance in troubleshooting electrical/mechanical issues
- Assists in training on new equipment
- Direct support to Production and Maintenance
- New product line start-up support
- R&D of equipment, processes and materials
- Assist in tooling design
- Maintains cleanliness of facility and grounds
- Collaborate with local IT department on facility/ IT projects
- Completion of annual RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) training
- Maintain DOT certification for 49 CFR 172.704(a)
- Periodic inspections of the Chemical Room to confirm handling and labeling compliance
- Must maintain a subscription to the FederalRegister.gov for notification of Code of Federal Regulations
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree or any combination of education with 3-5 years equivalent experience in similar role within a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of 3D printing and use of 3D printing software
- Knowledge of CAD software
- Ability to multi-task
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Must be a self-starter and have a high level of accountability
- Upbeat and energized to complete tasks with a positive attitude
- Must work well under pressure and have strong attention to detail
- Must be willing to learn and practice all safety procedures
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Minimal travel required during initial training period
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods on the production floor.
- Manual lifting up to 35 lbs. on a regular basis and up to 70 lbs. on occasion (with assistance).
- Ability to sit or stand for up to 8+ hours.
- Be able to reach overhead with or without the aid of a ladder or step stool.
- Ability to Grip/Grasp at least 8 hours of the day.
