  1. Home-based Online English Teacher Interview

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at SayABC (United Kingdom)

    Interview

Completed a very easy questionnaire and received an email to say that my application had been accepted and inviting me to book an equipment test, demo lesson and interview. I was given the option of an interview/demo lesson with a tutor at SayABC or a recorded interview. There were no live interview slots available for about 4 weeks so I decided in the end to do a recorded interview. The first part of this was the IT test - my camera and microphone were fine, but there was a problem with my internet connection. I had had to buy a USB connector so I could create a wired connection which I hadn't anticipated. However, the only information I got was that my WiFi had failed and to retake the test. I send SayABC an email to explain the problem and ask what I should do next, but received no reply. I kept getting emails from them to say it's more than x amount of time since we received your application and we note you haven't yet booked an interview. The emails also told me to contact them if I was having any problems. I checked the speed of my laptop using Speedtest and sent SayABC a copy of this, and again asked what I should do. I also asked if I could bypass the IT test given that the only problem seemed to be the connection but I didn't know what and move on to the demo lesson and recorded interview. I had no problems running SayABC's teaching platform on my laptop. As I never received a response from the company I gave up on the application as I felt that if they were not prepared to help me with my queries about the IT requirements then I might not receive any responses to problems when I was teaching for them. As far as I was concerned I had all the necessary equipment and there was nothing on the SayABC website to indicate the need for a particular processor or upload/download speed. I was disappointed not to get a response from the company to my emails especially as they kept bombarding me with emails and appeared keen to get me through the application process.
    Interview

Unable to get beyond equipment test and never found out what the problem was.
