University Health Care wants to give patients a passport to good health. The company, which does business as Passport Health Plan, provides managed Medicaid insurance services to about 150,000 members throughout 16 counties in Kentucky. Offerings include HMO, Medicare Advantage, and children's health plans. University Health Care was founded in 1997 by a group of affiliated providers including the University of Louisville Medical Center, Jewish Hospital and St. Mary's HealthCare, and the Louisville/Jefferson County Primary Care Association. The health plan has an administration partnership with the AmeriHealth Mercy organization, a Medicaid managed care joint venture between AmeriHealth and Mercy Health System.
