MGA was founded in 1979 by Isaac Larian who immigrated to Los Angeles from Iran at the age of 17 with $753 in his pocket and no return ticket home. He landed his first job after walking more than 11 miles, asking numerous restaurant and gas stations along the way for a job. That drive and perseverance have paved the way for Isaac’s nearly 45 years of success in the toy and entertainment business. MGA had its start as Micro Games of America when it became the first official distributor of Nintendo Watch and other handheld LCD games in the U.S. The company subsequently changed its name to MGA Entertainment in 1997 with the introduction of its first doll brand, Singing Bouncy Baby, which sold more than one million units its first year.
In 2001, MGA launched the highly successful Bratz line of fashion dolls, revolutionizing the doll industry with the first diverse fashion doll and their passion for fashion. Starting a world-wide phenomenon – ¬the joy of blind unboxing – MGA launched L.O.L. Surprise!, a collectible doll brand, in December 2016 which has consistently ranked as one of the top five toy properties around the world. And in late 2022, the company launched MGA’s Miniverse Make It Mini line of DIY collectible food and lifestyle toys for the 18 – 34-year-old kidults audience that has become a sold-out sensation around the world since its introduction.
