Catastrophes, including public health emergencies such as COVID-19, affect mental health, both at the individual and population levels. Indeed, people experience a wide range of mental health issues during and long after emergencies, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Such emergencies, by definition, are unexpected and out of an individual’s control, which in the case of COVID-19 (i.e., coronavirus), can lead to stress and anxiety.
