I have been working at Acadia Insurance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Being able to work with knowledgeable, competent, helpful and caring co-workers is a blessing. The corporate culture fosters a wonderful team environment where everybody's contribution is valued. Open communication at all levels and between departments helps resolve challenges quickly and in developing new and innovative products and process solutions.

    Cons

I wish more people I know had an opportunity to work for Acadia

    Advice to Management

Keep focused on Acadia's vision and the lines of communication open.

I have been working at Acadia Insurance full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This company cares about its employees. Career development is a priority, and there are lots of opportunities for mentoring and continuous learning. I have grown personally and professionally since working at Acadia. The company hires top notch employees and creates a positive and welcoming work environment. I look forward to going to work!

    Cons

There are no obvious cons to working here. Every company has challenges, but Acadia's management and employees work closely together. Employees are respected and 'heard' and that makes a huge difference when difficulties arise.

I have been working at Acadia Insurance full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have never worked for a company that truly cares about their employees the way Acadia does. Yes we have stressful days (who doesn't) but the trade-off is being able to work for an amazing company and with an amazing group of people.

    Cons

Just like anyone else, I always wish I had more vacation time!

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work! It's nice to work for a company that values their employees and treats them so well.

I have been working at Acadia Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Acadia has a strong, entrepreneurial culture that believes in doing the right things for its employees, agents and policyholders. Employees have the opportunity to make an impact and regularly go above and beyond their "job description". The company expects employees to roll up their sleeves and contribute, and to speak up when they think something can be done differently or better.

    Cons

The organizational structure is flat, which provides better access to senior management but also limits upward mobility. Compensation sometimes lags the market.

    Advice to Management

Protect the company culture and find new ways to reward high potential employees.

I worked at Acadia Insurance full-time

    Pros

    -Great people
    -Very friendly
    -Great internal community culture
-Executives and senior level management are engaging and know most on first name basis
    -Good work/life balance
    -Fun company outings, internal parties
-Good place to cruise control into retirement

    Cons

    -Lack of upward mobility
-Below average pay (might have to do with region)
-Overall, leadership is engaged and friendly but there are some mid-level management issues
-Company not high on taking risks on people, doesn't recognize and develop talent well
-Underwriting philosophy progressed toward "defensive/protectionist" in three years I was there
    -Not great for career development
-Ultimately left after two plus years in entry level position, gave my best to the company but lacked opportunity for growth. More than doubled my pay five months after leaving (different company/different state).

    Advice to Management

Great company with great people and a lot of potential. Executive row and senior management could benefit from developing a mid-level management training program. Recognize internal talent and fight to keep them. Too much talent goes out the door after two years.

  6. "Solid, stable, boring job"

    Pros

Coworkers are great and middle management is supportive.
Lots of training opportunities and growth within each department
    Good benefits and pay

    Cons

Entry level work can be boring but the supervisors try hard to make a fun casual atmosphere

    Advice to Management

If possible, give employees more flexibility to stretch their creative muscles on side projects

I have been working at Acadia Insurance full-time

    Pros

Good hours, friendly staff and teams. Benefits are comparable to other employers. You can stay in the position you are in for as long as you wish, however the pay is not adequate.

    Cons

Difficult to get ahead in this company. I've worked at Acadia for 4 years and have been unable to obtain any sort of advancement. Employees are shut out of positions as the company tends to hire from outside rather than promote its current staff.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the talent you currently have and help them achieve their goals. Employees not challenged to work hard when there are no incentives but pizza parties....

I have been working at Acadia Insurance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work life balance
    Treat employees great
    Co-workers/sense of community
    Not a stiff corporate vibe
During and after work events often

    Cons

    Pay is average to low
Communication could be better at times
Employee continued education benefits and support lacks
Slightly behind the times technology wise

    Advice to Management

IT/technology investments and advancements need to be top priority. Cannot efficiently compete with unlike tools.

    Pros

You can get away with a lot since the managers are too busy trying to hide.

    Cons

There aren't very many bright people that work there, so there isn't much intellectual stimulation. The managers are all hired based upon who they know, not their capabilities or talent. Employees are asked their opinions, but then not listened to at all.
