I have been working at Admiral Insurance full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Admiral is the best insurance company to work for by a long shot. That's why hard working employees (not lazy slobs) come to Admiral & stay forever. There may not be upward career opportunities because the staffing is lean, but that doesn't mean you are not compensated well. Your title may not change, but you are generously rewarded for the effort put in. As far as some comments on this site go about favorites, that's ridiculous. If you work hard and take responsibilities seriously, it is acknowledged and rewarded. There will always be complainers, but my experience with the complainers are that they have an entitlement mentality and expect good things to be handed to them just for showing up & no matter how many times you try to motivate them, they never get the connection between hard work & rewards. The vast majority of employees LOVE Admiral and feel appreciated.

    Cons

Lack of career advancement opportunities if title matters to you. But unlike other companies, Admiral does not hand out fake titles to make you feel better about your position, but also unlike other companies, salaries are extremely competitive. It all comes down to ego - would you rather have a sexy title or be paid generously? I'll take the cash.

    Advice to Management

keep doing what you are doing; it works for all of us!

    Pros

The benefits here at Admiral are great! Some of the most competitive I have ever seen in my prior experiences and the contributions are very competitive. Admiral has a great reputation in the industry and have been a very successful flagship operating unit for the WR Berkley Company. Recently they have implemented several new initiatives focusing on work/life balance including flex time, work from home options, and stand up desks which are all really great steps forward!

    Cons

Admiral is a well established organization with very strong tenure, and with that comes some need for change and evolution within the industry and internally. Its also a flat organization which hinders the ability to climb the career ladder more easily than in larger carriers.

    Advice to Management

Focus on engaging the employees more and defining the culture as the company grows. Allow more mobility internally for employees to flourish professionally.

    Pros

Flexible hours if your position allows you to take advantage of them. Seems understanding of family demands and work/life balance.

    Cons

Weak management by those counting down to retirement. Lack of direction. Right hand doesn't always know what the left is doing. Projects lack action plans, expectations or clarity. HR does not maintain confidentiality. Lack of career advancement opportunities. Often playing one person against another for no purpose. Low pay in comparison to other like companies.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the flexible hours, but a bit more structure to positions and career paths would be beneficial, esp. for retaining younger talent. Skip the flip-flops casual and increase salary to be competitive with peers.

    Pros

Co-workers (not management) are what keeps people sane!

    Cons

This company could care less about its employees. The company gives 0-1% raises to the worker bees, while uneducated, overpaid senior management employees are paid hefty salaries, bonuses and given huge salary increases. Not only did the company reduce their pay incentives such as bonuses and salary increases, they even had the nerve to TAKE vacation, personal and sick days AWAY FROM from the employees, while posting record profits. There is no positive reinforcement , only negative. Admiral is a sinking ship and employees are desperately trying to jump ship before it sinks. This place is a joke! Stay away if you're looking for a rewarding career with a company that values its employees.!

    Advice to Management

Hire a real HR VP who has a degree who employees can trust and vent to without the threat of having every word repeated, or without the fear of retaliation; pay your employees competitive salaries, raises and bonuses instead of over-compensating senior management; give positive feedback instead of over emphasizing the negative; stop wasting money on needless trinkets and put the money in employees paychecks!

It is easy to take time off, and the retirement plan is pretty good. Also, it is a pretty low stress job.

    Cons

No promotions, lots of office politics and favorite playing, VERY low pay.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees reasonalbe salaries and reward hard work.

    Pros

Work from home options. As an employee they allow you to make your own decisions and work your own desk. They treat their employees well.

    Cons

Just typical office problems- servers can be slow. I don't like that you only get five sick days a year. Whoever made up that rule did not have kids.

    Advice to Management

    Keep going!

    Pros

The building is beautiful, money & benefits are competitive. Excellent financial rating.

    Cons

No life work balance. They talk like they respect employees but when it comes down to it they will pressure you to do more than is possible. They are seeking to compete by being responsive and nimble to the market (that's good) but they do it at the expense of their employees quality of life (that's bad). For a company that's making a lot of money for Berkley they don't spend what is necessary to make Admiral nimble and responsive in a sustainable way. It's a shame.

    Pros

casual wear is a great bonus

    Cons

I have seen people getting promoted in office, but as you said, they were part of the upper management click, if you are not, love your current position cause that is where you'll stay!
When will the changes in management take place? soon?

    Advice to Management

When promotions are given out, make it good for all
