Great people that care about the company. Flexible work hours.

    Cons

    Technology needs to be updated

I worked at Admiral Insurance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salary was competitive, vacation time was ok, but not great. They say they’ll work with you on a schedule, but my supervisor would not make any changes.

    Cons

Not a very professional organization. I was given little to no training and expectations are constantly changing. My manager should not have been supervising other people!

    Advice to Management

Make sure you managers are professional, know what they want and expect and set those parameters from day one. Not changing constantly. Also, training is important for people to know how to do things within your organization!

I have been working at Admiral Insurance full-time

    Pros

The non-management people you deal with every day on your team are great.

    Cons

The leadership is lacking in every department. CEO is out of touch especially compared to previous one. HR is absolutely terrible, VP is no better than previous VP. Gossip, fraternization, drama. Benefits are not great. Pay is ok. They are cheap. If you have been here a long time, your pay is awful. Don't be older, non-white or a woman. They think we don't talk, but we do.

    Advice to Management

Take some leadership classes, get rid of most of the HR department, find a new CEO

    Pros

Great company. They give you the authority to make decisions and the benefits are quite competitive. As a smaller company, it is easy to get noticed when the drive and results are positive.

    Cons

As a part of a small company, upward mobility is a little more difficult.

I worked at Admiral Insurance full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Solid learning opportunities that can be transferred elsewhere

    Cons

Major changes in management and structure across the company changed the atmosphere from "family" to "corporate". The time when EVERY employee mattered was replaced with only those within a certain management clique mattered and were rewarded.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget about your foundation employees, the ones who get things done everyday without a spotlight shown on them and keep the business operations and services moving smoothly.

I have been working at Admiral Insurance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    casual work environment, telecommute available

    Cons

extremely clicky senior management, no advancement opportunities (the title/salary you join with most likely will be the one you leave with).

    Advice to Management

new CEO changed the DNA and the dynamic or the organization overnight and not for the better. What once felt like a very special company where high performance was recognized and rewarded was lost overnight.

    Pros

401K contribution is generous these days for a company. Paid designations

    Cons

No room for advancement, outdated systems

I worked at Admiral Insurance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The building is beautiful, money & benefits are competitive. Excellent financial rating.

    Cons

No life work balance. They talk like they respect employees but when it comes down to it they will pressure you to do more than is possible. They are seeking to compete by being responsive and nimble to the market (that's good) but they do it at the expense of their employees quality of life (that's bad). For a company that's making a lot of money for Berkley they don't spend what is necessary to make Admiral nimble and responsive in a sustainable way. It's a shame.
