Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

    Great Company!

    Pros

Applied is a great company to work for! I've personally been given great opportunities because my hard work has been recognized. Management really does seek out rewarding good work, go-getters, and I appreciate that. I am surrounded by people who work hard and really value our customers, which is exactly the team I want to be on!

    Cons

None - I think this is a great company with endless opportunities!

    Pros

Incredible company at the forefront of its industry. Great pay, incredible leadership, and very collaborative environment even in a remote position.

    Cons

Lack of thorough training, could use better alignment on processes/operations. Product bundles are a bit confusing to navigate effectively as a sales team.

    Stable and Innovating Software Company

    Pros

Companies don't thrive for 30+ years unless they are doing something right. You can't beat the people at Applied--- Always willing to help, knowledgeable, and striving to succeed as a team. No room for big egos or entitlement in a culture of team players. As Applied grows in size due to acquisitions and company revenue, they continue to invest in their employees and tech tools. While some companies with 2500+ employees might seem insincere with their efforts to promote culture, Applied continually rolls out new initiatives to encourage an inclusive and supportive workplace. I'm excited to see what Applied achieves over the next 30 years (and counting).

    Cons

Not really a con, but a reality in this day and age. Applied is trying to figure out post-covid remote team culture.

Dead End Job with Poor Communication

    Apr 5, 2022 - Support Technician
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Remote Working. Generous Holiday, Sick and Vacation PTO. Off on Weekends. Occasional Company-Wide Bonus during Pandemic. CEO is one of the nicest people you'll meet.

    Cons

Severe Favoritism. Complacent Management. Merit Raises are sparse, the company does not keep up with industry standard or cost of living/inflation. You pay for your own parking when not remote. Poor communication and resources. 0 Discipline for Underperformance and Complaints are Ignored. No Room to move up unless you have others to pick up your slack while you focus on other opportunities to move laterally. They're numbers focused over behavior, and the numbers can be manipulated. Little to no training with no designated trainers, training is done by job shadowing others in your role.

    Don't

    May 18, 2022 - Support Technician

    Pros

Direct manager was good. I enjoyed working for my supervisor. I can't speak for the CEO - he hasn't been there long enough to see any changes.

    Cons

Everything - compensation, communication, upper management, culture. The entire environment is incredibly toxic. They also stiffed me on the rest of my 2 week pay. I would never recommend this company. Ever. They are worried about execs making money & everyone else is significantly below them.

    Solid stepping stone.

    Pros

Work with some great people and build friendships that last years after you’ve left. They can be very adaptive to your needs (wfh, moving schedules around to fit your needs)

    Cons

Pay. This has been said many times before, but the pay is terrible. Year after year you hear about “record breaking revenue” and so on, but then you get a sad story about why you’re only getting $500-1000 annual raises. Unless you have a fancy title, it will keep you afloat, but that’s about it. Way too much micromanaging. It seems a solid 35% of the company has some kind of management title. Management can be hard to work with at times as it seems their entire job is to sit in meetings fir 7 hours a day. Internal moves almost require an act of Congress to happen.

    Pros

Recently was given 2 extra floating holidays, birthday holiday is a thing. Most co workers are nice

    Cons

I've been through two different groups at the same level and both have massive turn over. One had no manual for procedures, training was all over the place, no one really took responsibility for you as a new person, and you felt stressed and on flames until you were good enough to build a knowledge nest for yourself and get things under control. I personally know 3 people who couldn't take the overwhelming workflow and retired rather than deal with it. The next group solid training was promised but due to other issues and the team dipping to a single digit, it was cancelled mid-way through and everyone got shoved into calls, reading from scripts rather than knowing the product. For now. Be aware that this is not common, most departments do not have scripts to lean on at all. Just be aware if you get hired you'll be mostly on your own to teach yourself and horde any scraps you can find to build yourself up.

    Great Company, Amazing People!

    Mar 31, 2022 - Customer Success Manager
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Remote work options, competitive pay, inclusive culture

    Cons

Communication could improve. Acting on ideas before they are ready to be implemented. A lot of "building the plane while it's in the air". However, not a bad concept if you are someone who likes that!

Good place to break into tech, then leave

    Apr 2, 2022 - Anonymous Employee
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Remote available Full benefits on day 1 Can be flexible with your schedule No minimum requirements for support so it’s a great stepping stone job to gain basic tech skills

    Cons

There is no focus on retention of existing employees. Raises are small and yearly. Promotions are not merit based, they just happen if you’ve been there long enough and come with the same yearly raise everyone else gets. Old and aging products / tech debt. Stress from job is way too high for way too little pay and it’s easy to burn out.
