I have been working at Applied Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I genuinely enjoy working at Applied Systems.

    - My coworkers are friendly and hard-working. It's clear to me they are committed to making the best products they can. We're comfortable asking each other for help and bringing up disagreements with each other with an eye towards finding the best approach, not to winning arguments.
    - Management is awesome. I feel very comfortable talking to my boss when I need help, and he definitely helps me and my team get great work done instead of causing us extra stress. The other managers in my office also have good reputations.
    - Senior management is very knowledgeable about the company and have a strong strategy in place. And their strategy isn't focused on bean-counting, but rather on providing good employees with the resources they need to make strategically important projects as high-quality as possible. Management rarely talks about exactly when they expect the company to hit specific financial milestones, but rather talks about why it believes the company strategy will drive growth as much as possible, whatever the exact numbers are.
    - Great work-life balance. Every now and then, about once per year, there's a crunch time where I have to work 50-60 hours or come in on weekends for a few weeks. But the rest of the time, 40 hour weeks are the norm, and no one is watching the clock for exactly when we arrive or leave.
    - The company has been consistently growing for the last several years. And because the company is actively developing new products and watching new markets to enter, I believe it will continue to grow steadily for the foreseeable future.
    - Career opportunities. When a position opens up, the company prefers to hire employees who want to move to the position instead of hiring outside. I've seen several of my coworkers enter programming or product management jobs from call center positions as a result. And my boss has been very clear with me about what I need to do to earn a promotion.

    Cons

Applied tends to pay below market average. For me, though, the great work environment is worth it.

    Advice to Management

During one of his presentations, the CEO said, "My strategy is to hire good people and keep them." From what I've seen at the company, I honestly believe he and the rest of the management mean that. Keep it up!

I have been working at Applied Systems full-time

    Pros

Applied continues to be the most innovative agency management system vendor in the world. Applied's leadership is second to none as they have continued to execute on their vision of the Digital Age of Insurance. I look forward to continue to grow with Applied and provide the best tools out there to support our ever growing customer base.

    Cons

I can't think of any cons worth mentioning.

    Advice to Management

Stay on track and continue to innovate.

I have been working at Applied Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Top notch product to sell, unlike any other in market. Support from management and consultants is unlike anything I've ever experienced in 20+ years of sales experience. The company ALWAYS does right by customers and employees, CEO is outstanding and really cares about every single employee.

    Cons

None worthy of listing; 6+ years with the company and haven't had a true complaint.

I have been working at Applied Systems full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company culture is the best of any job I've had. Coworkers and managers are great! It's a very laid back atmosphere. Extremely casual dress code. Decent benefits. Generous paid time off. Ability to work from home sometimes. Pay is decent in my opinion...yes, you can make more if you are willing to commute to Chicago, but I personally am not.

    Cons

As with any customer service job, there are some nice customers and some that really test your patience. Room for growth into other departments is there, but not for everyone. Those hired for Epic software support have ALOT more opportunities to grow than those who support the older softwares. Also, the amount of the 401K match is kind of a joke.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work as far as the culture and atmosphere goes! But if you want to stop losing employees on the TAM/Doris side of support, then you need to give them the opportunity to learn Epic so they will have more growth opportunities.

    "The Workload is Incredible"

I have been working at Applied Systems full-time

    Pros

So my title is, the workload is incredible. This can be literally taken both ways. In my department there is a wide range of work to be done and much of it is fairly enjoyable, with a few tasks so frustrating that slamming your fingers in a drawer would be less painful. But in general, the baseline work is ok. Your clients are generally very pleasant to work with and helping them get live with their products is rewarding. Depending on your manager, you may have a wonderful internal experience as well.

    Cons

The con is, the workload is incredible. I'm talking about having hundreds and hundreds of accounts piling up, in addition to new sales needing their stuff RIGHT NOW, and product updates coming out so quickly you'd swear the last batch of new features came out only a month ago. They probably did! This means your supporting job workflows are quickly out of date, and you have no documentation on what to do, or updated documentation to hand out to your clients.

The department I'm part of, and lets be honest, most departments at this company are vastly, vastly understaffed. It's a bad cycle, you may have 10 people but need 30 people. Those 10 people doing the work of several can't take it and leave. Repeatedly. You may receive emails every few months of all the people leaving. They want people to stay, naturally, but who wants to do the work of 2, or 3, or more people, all day, every day? Through your lunch, or even at night, and on weekends?

And depending on your manager, you may not have a good time, at all. Might get told you should feel stressed, that the CEO himself doesn't want to hear about the departments terrible numbers, or blustered one way or another.

I worked at Applied Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lower level, Support and non-management second floor employees care about evolving the products and customer service.

    Cons

Lack of communication throughout entire company, poor management (Director) skills, failure to include employees with all the details or meetings pertinent to job.

    Advice to Management

Keep both eyes open for new vindictive managers/directors. Very shocking that it was accepted that fellow employees working externally was outside painting during a meeting, or baby sitting with young children "while working". Seems like a waste of company funds.

I have been working at Applied Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The management team at Applied cares deeply about its employees. It is a truly focused, rewarding work environment where employees feel like they are cared about by the team around them. It's also a great place to grow your career - if you are willing to put in the work, and are achievement focused, you will be recognized for your contributions to the Mission of our company.

    Cons

Compensation continues to be a challenge. The longer you work here, the harder it seems to be to earn market competitive wages, but that's probably true in most places.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees, make meaningful compensation decisions to reward and recognize your top talent.
