I have been working at Applied Systems full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Exciting job that has room to grow. The company loves working with entry level applicants and letting them truly shine and grow within the company! If you have a solid personality and desire to work hard, you will succeed with Applied. Great team environment that is always working hard to help the employees grow. Benefits are great. Many different options for you to choose from. The company also offers various work from home opportunities, good paid time off initiatives, and fun events onsite!

I have been working at Applied Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I have learned a lot about how our products are designed to work. Have input into further development of our products. Travel to all areas of the US and some areas in Canada. Hope to travel to UK at some point as well.

    Cons

Product(s) development is so fast it's sometimes hard to keep up and know all areas of the system. Since we train it, we have to know it. With current work schedules, it's difficult to maintain knowledge levels.

    Advice to Management

I appreciate being given insight into the business in our town hall meetings. Keep moving forward with transparency.

I worked at Applied Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Easy work when there is work. Sometimes no work for months. Flexible scheduling. Remote work opportunities. Many folks work from home all week especially when their boss is based in Atlanta. Development supervisors actually stick up for their developers.

    Cons

Fighting between product management and development is insane. Developers are not there to fall on their knees to product owners and scrum masters. At any given time I had at least 5 people who thought they were my boss and my actual boss was never around. Playing favorites is the norm. It's not about skill and talent it's all about just saying yes or saying nothing at all. Scope creep is common. Agile is a thought not an actual practice. Start here but don't stay long.

    Advice to Management

Fix the barking out of orders from product management to developers. Have some of your directors actually open the software. Check out where your Atlanta based directors are during the day, they go missing a lot.

I worked at Applied Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Benefits are good
-Not a stressful job for the most part
-Employees are easy to get along with, aside from a few exceptions
-Members of the development teams can work remotely one day of the week

    Cons

-Pay is very low, switching to an entry level job at a different company had a ~20% higher salary then my 5 years of working at Applied. Raises are very low and sometimes you'll get a small bonus but it's rare
-No meaningful career advancement. No incentive to work hard. You may be able to move laterally to other departments though
-Company will always boast about impressive sales numbers and growth, yet the people who are actually putting the time in to make the products don't reap any of the rewards
-The companies usage of Agile development methodology is bizarre. The scrum masters act as though they are the bosses of the team's, even though they are not and should not be. No other company I know of that uses Agile has this issue. I think the biggest reason for this was that many managers/supervisors were made to be scrum masters that had no skills other then micromanaging. This caused lots of issues in many scrum teams

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to get more hands on and spend time to look at the inner workings of their development teams. There is so much needless middle management that adds no value. Remove some of this, find some more great developers by laying a decent salary instead of looking for people who are unmotivated and complacent.

Getting career advancement opportunities for Designers and QA would be a great help to motivating them.

I have been working at Applied Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with that are passionate about what they do. High attention to customer satisfaction, good work/life balance, above average office workspaces, good benefits.

    Cons

As a development org, a good deal of pressure to meet date commitments even while scope is still being changed. Normal in development, but still something that not everyone can deal with well.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the company wide all-hands updates from the Exec team so everyone can understand the big picture and support the global goals.

I worked at Applied Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Not a bad location if you live in the South Suburbs.
    Benefits are okay.
Gets you lots of experience in a short amount of time.

    Cons

Compensation is 20-50% below what you'd make in a similar role with a similar company.
Dedication and hard work are generally not rewarded, while management receives excesses for barely ever showing up.

    Advice to Management

Your employees know how well you reward yourselves and not them.
