I have been working at Applied Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Industry leader with great product vision
Uncapped Compensation plan that pays (if you want to work)
5 star President's Club Trip (just got back from Puerta Vallarta!)
Nice work environment (coffee, bagel/fruit Tuesday's, etc.)
Learn a solutions approach to selling in a complex high tech environment

    Cons

Location is a little far (but my schedule is flexible enough)
Takes a while ramp and learn all the insurance lingo and Applied products

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Applied Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Applied feels as much like family as a place of employment. There is a culture of good work ethics here that I don't see at other similar organizations. The dress code is relaxed and some teams have relatively flexible hours (starting/ending times) to accommodate personal needs like taking children to/from daycare or school. Applied has many locations around the United States, as well as Canada, United Kingdom and Ireland. Employees have been able to remain at Applied while moving between offices; in most cases they did not have to change positions while doing so. Applied is truly the best in their industry, which is providing software and services to insurance agencies in the US, UK, Ireland and Canada. It's nice to work for a growing company with strong sales that is in a good financial position, instead of worrying about being downsized out of a job.

    Cons

Applied's University Park office is not located in the tech corridors of downtown Chicago or western suburbs, but the reverse commute down I-57 is more of a pro than con.

I have been working at Applied Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Hard work is well compensated for through a unlimited commission plan. Great health benefits albeit expensive. Work life balance is maintained through being able to work from home when I’m not traveling.
Presidents Club trips are 5 Star.

    Cons

Can’t think of many. The company treats their employees very well.
Unlimited time off really means your working all the time.
    Competitive Marketplace.

    Advice to Management

Continue to innovate and find new ways to generate revenue for Applied sales that bring value to the agency.

    Cons

Insurance moves kind of slow at times

    Advice to Management

    Keep pressing the status quo

I worked at Applied Systems full-time

    Pros

Not a bad commute from the South Suburbs.
Okay as a stepping stone to a better job.

    Cons

Compensation and benefits were significantly below market relative to similar companies.
I "got" time off, but actually getting to take it was like pulling teeth.
I did my own job and those of two others in my department for nearly a year, but was never compensated for it, and was still expected to work nights and weekends when they finally got back. Meanwhile, people who barely showed up and barely did their own jobs made out like bandits.
    Company policies were selectively enforced.

    Advice to Management

You're very hard to trust when you let people brazenly lie to and about their fellow employees.
    Please stop deleting my reviews.
A lot of the people you pay very little are worth a lot more, and a lot of the people you pay too much are worth a lot less.

I have been working at Applied Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

401(k) match, health benefits with HSA options, generous vacation days, lots of perks, CEO with high approval rating.

    Cons

Perhaps more options in the future with 401(k) investments portfolio, currently quite limited to a few funds with MassMutual and BenefitWallet HSA.

    Pros

Good people who work hard and are overly willing to help.

    Cons

Very antiquated thinking. Mired in the past.

    Advice to Management

In the next 3 years, the company will continue to do well. But the outlook for 5+ years is poor. New competitors aren't just going to creep in and nip at your heels, they're going to take massive bites off your business model with completely new technologies that disrupt the entire industry. Bring in new blood, and do it quickly.

I worked at Applied Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

CEO - has a fantastic vision for the company.
Executive Management (Director and above) follows this direction/vision.
Co-Workers are fantastic, great bunch of people to work with.

    Cons

Salary - very low (30-40%) of industry standard. The company should be embarrassed with the amount they pay people.

Middle Management - horrible (in most departments) I don't know what happens from Executive management to middle, but, the vision of the company is lost. Very stuck in an "I am the boss" not "I am a leader" mentality.

Benefits - horrible. Limited PTO (should be unlimited PTO). Medical premiums are about double what they should be.

Extremely political to get promoted. If you're a "Yes, ma'ma" or "Yes, sir" person you'll get promoted. If you challenge the status quote and try to actually innovate you'll be punished for it.

Yearly Bonuses - you'd think this be a Pro, but, they are so small it's not even funny. Bonuses should be at min 8-12% of the person salary.

    Advice to Management

Look at why people are leaving, and how you haven't been able to fill those positions for months.

Look at other tech companies, the benefits they offer, the pay they offer, the flexible work schedules they offer.

Just because applied is south of Chicago (30minutes) doesn't mean you should pay rock-bottom prices. As someone else mentioned - we hear about how much money we are making as a company and all the profit goals we are hitting. And then we get 2-3% raises... It's insulting.

I used to love working at Applied, now I don't.
