I worked at BIC (Less than a year)

    Pros

Setup so training is long enough so when your on a Machine by yourself you have confidence enough to work faster and become reliable.

    Cons

Breaks are set in stone when the productivity would be the same if they slid another break in there. Maybe better.

    Advice to Management

Absolutely loved working there. I believe the boss I had was a Matt Farrell. Reason I remember is his first name and even last initial is the same. Unfortunately a huge life event put a quick end to my employment but would recommend the job to anyone who, like myself, likes to put in a hard days work for decent pay. Only issue I can address or think of would be the presences of actual management on the floor instead of listening to someone who a new employee wonders if he is making the correct change or if the person who ces to help knows what the heck he's talking about.

I worked at BIC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits, company events, and employee engagement activities.

    Cons

There is no work/life balance. You are expected to work long hours with minimal training. Be prepared to pick up the slack of others and work they didn't want to do and left for you. The gossip level and attitudes there are that of middle schoolers. It is a very "clique-like" environment and if you don't fit in, you'll be sure to know. With all that, there is also a lot of micromanagement which makes it hard to complete tasks at hand.

    Advice to Management

Be clear of the tasks when posting positions. Stop adding more and more to a person's job title until they are ready to explode. Be clear on the abilities for the position and enlist a proper training for each role. Do not micromanage.

    I worked at BIC full-time

    Pros

Large established company. Very secure location, must use badge for access to most areas. Many training opportunities are available for all employees to take advantage of

    Cons

Not a very progressive work environment. Male dominated management environment. Human resources department is seldom on the employee side of any action

    Advice to Management

Become more flexible and truly support the employees in daily work environment. Treat employees with respect and take bad weather issues realistically

Look at your organization and "try" to see if anyone is happy - are they smiling or miserable.

I have been working at BIC (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great brand and products, lots of potential, people in the organization, location.

    Cons

Family company thus too much politics, Senior Management spending more time taking care of their jobs and make the owner happy than doing the right things.

I worked at BIC full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Strong brand and products recognized around the world. Great friendships with peers.

    Cons

Management hired from outside of company. Not promoting from within the organization, even when qualified internal candidates with 20+ years of experience applied for open positions. Inconsistent pay for people at the same level, and lower than that of other CPG companies. Few opportunities to move up within organization.

Increasing work responsibilities with less support, complex systems and processes. Management direction is 'do more with less', which has resulted in a browbeaten, unhappy work force, even when the company had record breaking years of profits.

    Advice to Management

Advise to prospective employees: Talk to current and former employees to understand the current environment at BIC and if you think it is a fit for you.

    Pros

As a publicly traded company but family controlled BIC is always able to take the long view.
This means there is less focus on quarterly results and more focus on the long term

    Cons

    Decisions can be slow sometimes

    Advice to Management

    Work less in silos
