I worked at Bristol Hospital full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent Patient care and Patient Focus.
Pay rate is adequate and hours are comfortable.
    Detailed and organized Training.

    Cons

Staff is not supportive specifically management.
    ***Cut-throat training environment.***
Management acts first and asks questions later.
Management does not see the small picture, only the big picture. They should be able to see both.

    Advice to Management

Work on a having a supportive staff who can understand and help other employees in their time of need. Although it is understandable the primary focus is the patient, The staff needs just as much attention in order to thrive. An employee should not feel persecuted or alone in a working environment that revolves around caring for others. And most importantly before you act and start terminating employees, at least sit down and ask for an explanation. You may be surprised to see that what you thought is not really a fact. Be humble.

I have been working at Bristol Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Close to home, easy parking for offsite employees, tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

Raises non-existent, open door policy looks good on paper, but does not exist in reality. Benefit costs go up regularly but raises do not come anywhere near to what is lost in vacation/sick time, disability,or exorbitant co-pays. Employees are expected to work harder than ever for no raise or even a sincere thank you. Meanwhile, CEO's salary is published, causing terrible moral within hospital at the one sidedness of management.

    Advice to Management

Have a meeting with long term employees to find insight on why employees both long term and short term are so unhappy.

Great Benefits, always busy... The staff was great to work with. The days passed very quickly and there was always a lunch or breakfast scheduled with a pharmaceutical rep, which meant never having to worry about packing meals.

    Cons

There was work overload at times and the hours changed too frequently.

I worked at Bristol Hospital full-time

    Pros

-Hands off management style in IT
    -Staff are awesome
    -Tuition reimbursement
    -Decent paid time off
    -Organization truly cares about patients

    Cons

    -Difficult to advance within organization
-Salaries are about 10-15k less then other similar sized companies
    -No bonuses
-Minimal salary increases (2% tops if your lucky)

    Advice to Management

Provide extra funding to lower level managers for bonuses/raises to distribute among staff. This will give you the ability to retain key employees who keep day-today operations flowing. Focus the companies operations on its core competencies and do not copy other large healthcare organizations as the company is too small to compete.

    Pros

The benefits aren't too bad compared to other places I've heard about. Most people are friendly toward one another. We've made great strides in the last few years as far as improvements in the building structure, new equipment, etc.

    Cons

The technicians in my dept. are grossly underpaid considering the amount of responsibility that is thrust upon us on a daily basis. The 2% increases you may see during your yearly eval is a slap in the face. We are continually denied market adjustments because supposedly we are "right where we're supposed to be" My dept techs need to be reevaluated but no one who can, will take the steps needed for that to happen. The HR dept seems clueless when it comes to hiring people who are qualified for jobs unless its for admininstration positions. There have been countless great people who have left BH for better treatment and compensation. Never have I heard once from any of these people that BH tried to talk them out of it, or did anything to keep them onboard. It's a shame. At BH, we're a dime a dozen. The mentality is, if you don't like it here, there's the door. There are plenty of other people waiting for your job. I think we deserve better than that.

    Advice to Management

Truly appreciate all the depts that make this place run and who keep the customers coming back to our hospital. The bits in the newsline from Kurt are nice, but sometimes they sound fake. Like it's just something he HAS to say. Please, please, please...believe it or not, the little people run this hospital, it's not always the big shots in the offices. Make your dept heads be AWARE of what's going on in their respective depts........don't push things under the rug, address what needs to be addressed and then take action to remedy any problems. If people are unhappy in their depts or with each other, it shows on their faces when that patient comes thru the door......Take a look at people congregating in the hallways.....they are employees complaining to each other.
