I have been working at Burroughs full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great Company! They give you all the tool's you need and are really easy going. You're somewhat your own boss and work on your own with no boss breathing down your neck. Support from other techs and company support is great. Def. A great place to work. DM and ADM for my area are great.

    Cons

    None that I can list.

    Advice to Management

Better schedule distribution and COL/pay increases like other places.

I worked at Burroughs full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of OT, crazy good paychecks, great tech support

    Cons

    24hr on-call, micromanaging, family time

    Advice to Management

Make sure a good manager is hired to represent the field service techs, preferably a very experienced and organized technician, this way manager can relate to field techs and there is a mutual respect and understand

I worked at Burroughs full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you were an original Burroughs employee before the mergers you had a decent salary.

    Cons

They require all your time. You are expected to be on call more than you are off. There is no promotion from within. Leadership really doesn't care about you. They can tell you they are trying to hire but that is usually not he fix for those issues.

    Advice to Management

    Non because it won't help

I have been working at Burroughs full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If hourly, you can work a ton of overtime.

    Cons

Terrible Systems. (GP/Pendum systems are the worst)
    No bonuses.
    No raises.
    No path to success
Too much overtime for salaried workers.
Management that is too focused on themselves rather than the company's future as a whole.
Free range sales people that have zero accountability.
    Poor Processes.
    Employees worked to death

    Advice to Management

Start focusing on showing appreciation for your employees. All of them. There is something wrong when you cant afford a christmas card but can afford to send your sales team and a +1 on a vacation to an all expenses paid vacation to Cancun. Especially when that team is lackluster at best.

No, an email announcing a customer likes an employee is not enough recognition.

    Pros

Great team environment. Good pay and benefits. Burroughs company has a long history and well known name. Even with all of the changes that the company has undergone, it remains a great company to work for.

    Cons

The usual budget tightening that occurs with most businesses these days.

I have been working at Burroughs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you enjoy fixing things, there is a pretty wide variety of equipment that Burroughs contracts for.

    Cons

Long hours, explicitly stated 24/7 service is rendered to some clients, thus the job often interferes with personal life; very little expression of appreciation for jobs well done or sacrifices made; no cost of living adjustments/raises; bonuses only performance based with stringent conditions; thus, little motivation or incentive to improve. Very little job satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees. Value goes both ways - if employees aren't valued (given even basic cost of living adjustments), they won't value the job or the company for very long. Install saloon doors, because employees will be leaving on a frequent basis, and good quality employees will not stay long once they realize the stagnant environment of Burroughs offers little incentive to advance.

I have been working at Burroughs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

160 hours of vacation time accrual per year

    Cons

No yearly evaluations, no yearly pay raises, company infested with lazy technicians, too many managers but no action for positive change for working conditions.

    Advice to Management

Give merit raises to good employees, give write ups to those who do not conform to company policy.

I worked at Burroughs full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I had 5 years as a ATM Customer Engineer with NCR before I was hired by the Burroughs DM in Ohio. He was one of the best managers I've worked with in 30 years in IT, truely empathized with the technicians daily demands and limits. The wage is better than what NCR offers without the heartless demands that pushes a technician to the limit, interfering with a normal home life.

    Cons

A lot of 'windshiedl time' in NW Ohio/SE Michigan but that comes with the territory. Every other weekend on call, but that has changed recently to every third weekend.

    Advice to Management

None, he's doing a good job.

We do understand the demands on our service engineers and we are continuing to address a supportive environment and positive work/life balance. As always, we appreciate the feedback and transparency!
