I worked at Conning (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Collegial atmosphere. Management is actively pursuing M&A and international growth as core business of managing small & mid-cap insurers assets have limited growth potential as most prospects have already outsourced their investment function already.

    Cons

Some employees are set in their ways, but there has been some management changes, so I expect a more dynamic environment going forward.

    Pros

There are some exceptionally intelligent, and wonderful people employed there

    Cons

Management doesn't value honest input from all employees and choose to turn a blind eye to obvious management problems

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes and deal with the obvious problems within in. Do what you know needs to be done.

    Cons

They don't pay as well as others in the industry. Not a lot of opportunity for advancement. Employees are not really empowered to make decisions on their own.

    Advice to Management

Increase pay/bonuses and offer more opportunities to grow. Give managers more latitude to make decisions.
