I worked at Coverys full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Excellent benefits, yearly bonuses and receptive HR department
    - Flexible working hours if the position allows for it; option to telework for some positions
    - Plenty of training and education available to further career goals
    - Nice company culture: socials, surprise half days, snow days (yes, it's true)
    - Promotions are from within the company most of the time

    Cons

    - Heavy work load; vacated positions do not get filled immediately; hardship must be proven
    - Promotions are from within the company most of the time (it's not always a good thing)
    - There is a huge discrepancy between exempt and non-exempt employees
    - The company used to pay 100% health, the decision to charge the employees was, in my opinion, silly. The cost to employees is not as bad as many other companies but it still bugs me. (and will probably reveal who I am)

    Advice to Management

    Mmmmm...not anymore!

I worked at Coverys full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits and company socials.

    Cons

If you want to go back to High School and deal with trivial B.S. then this is the place for you. Want to be stuck in the same position for years with zero opportunities to grow? this is for you. I worked for an old man, who was indecisive, ignorant and who lacked managerial courage.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting people who don't deserve the responsibility. Stop promoting people who do not display the skills and/or the professionalism to do the job effectively. Stop promoting people who take 5-10 smoke breaks a day. And please do not promote or glorify employees who aren't punctual and/or thorough.

    I worked at Coverys full-time

    Pros

This company offers a very good benefit program.

    Cons

The internal vibe equates to a high school environment. Either you are in the clique or out. If out, good luck with opportunities for growth, promotion, or being chosen for projects of interest.

    Advice to Management

Adopt core values and stick to them objectively.

I worked at Coverys full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are decent. That's the only carrot they can dangle in front of you.

    Cons

Fly by the seat of your pants approach to project management. Management in all departments (especially Marketing and Corporate Communications) are not qualified and tremendously insecure. Also, management is unwilling to recognize the work done by their staff.

    Advice to Management

You are not qualified to be in your position. You should either quit or wait to be fired for your incompetence.

    Pros

I loved working for the company. Good pay and great benefits.

    Cons

New management took over workers' compensation department where I worked. Treated employees horribly. Almost entire staff of claims adjusters left as a result of new management, even though their work histories with the company averaged between10 and 20 years.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of management in workers comp department and hire supervisors who appreciate their staff and who will work with the staff to provide the best in customer service and work product.

    I worked at Coverys full-time

    Pros

The benefits are very good. An extremely strong balance sheet provides stability. Some very good front line employees.

    Cons

As long as you are the CEO's buddy and especially if you work in underwriting then you're golden - even if you are not very good at your job. Most of the executive and senior management team members are not leaders and are not capable of successfully moving the company into the future. Politics and posturing is all they can do.....in addition to drinking a lot. Several talented people have left or been forced out of this company in the past few years.

    Advice to Management

Do what is right for the company and its clients!!!!!!! Stop hiring your relatives.
