I have been working at DOWL part-time

    Pros

All employees seem invested in how my transition is going and my workplace happiness, and are willing to help fill availability if I do not have a task. Coworkers respond well to my questions, and go above and beyond in creating learning experiences that help me come to the solution, rather than simply providing the answer for me. Employees in all practice areas synergize, creating a fun variety of projects.

    Cons

Challenges with staying busy while being a new employee, especially when you are not in a position to find your own work (however this is understood as a new hire). Some supervisors may not seem prepared to train new staff, as there is a knowledge gap that comes with working in this realm for an extended time.

I have been working at DOWL full-time

    Pros

Management cares about employees. A place where you can move up in the ranks - they value internal staff.

    Cons

Market forces in some of their locations have made the firm restrict in the last year, but it looks like things are on an upswing.

    Advice to Management

Be sure to focus on the solid, hardworking employees. Don't spend so much time on just the squeaky wheels.

    DOWL Response

    Aug 2, 2017 – President and CEO

Thanks for the response. Similar to the last comment I responded to, I assure you that DOWL will take care of our "A players " first and not focus on those that are disengaged.

I have been working at DOWL full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Continued investment in growth, owners and managers devoted to the company's success, great clients, a place to grow your career and earn increased responsibility and success.

    Cons

Company tends to be too patient with under-performers and those that are focused on me-first "taking".

    Advice to Management

Spend more time and energy on and with the employees that engaged, loyal, and low maintenance.

    DOWL Response

    Aug 2, 2017 – President and CEO

Thanks for the review. I have thought much about your comment and there is probably some validity to it. We are patient, we coach, train, cajole, and invest in people - possibly to a fault. And I... More

I have been working at DOWL full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexible Work Schedule, Nice People

    Cons

    - Hard to meet utilization and hours when there is no work. A lot of pressure on designers especially when there is no work.
    - Cut back on overhead makes it hard to develop young talent.

    Advice to Management

Need to market more, not just in the Pacific NW.

    DOWL Response

    May 25, 2017 – President and CEO

    I worked at DOWL full-time

    Pros

    Good talent in some areas
Good leadership below the C Suite
    Flexible work schedules
Things are good when transportation is good
    Some offices are great

    Cons

    Subpar talent in some areas
    Corporate silliness
Things are bad when transportation is bad
Some offices are not so great

    Advice to Management

Loosen up. Show your human side. Connect with the 95% of the company that aren't "ELITE." Dump the ELITE program. Pay all employees for time past 40 hours per week. Develop a real vacation policy. Close the Seattle office and have the C Suite shack up with the plebes in Redmond.
