Pros

I have been working only a few short weeks, but I think DaDaABC is a good company to work for. I like that as a an independent contractor, you still get at least half pay if you are on standby at your computer (Do not have classes during your contracted hours). I like that DaDa arranges classes for you versus having to always wait for someone to pick you as a teacher. It's a great benefit that you can receive TESOL training for free through DaDa after completing six months. The students are absolutely adorable!

Cons

Some cons regarding DaDa is how payment is set up. After passing your interview and demo class, you receive a contract with your salary in RMB. As an American, this does not help me at all. Conversion rates change every day! Say for example you review your contract and convert the RMB to USD (or whatever currency applies to you) just because it was, for example, $21 per hour the date your contract was issued, it might be $19 the next day and $15 the day after. Providing a salary in the teacher's currency would negate the conversation rate changes. As I write this, I currently make $0.30 USD less than when I first started. You can never truly know what your paycheck will be the following month with the changing conversation rates. The 2 minute breaks between classes (if you're fully booked - which I have not been completely booked yet) can be brutal. If you're fully booked during a three hour work day, using the bathroom isn't an option. I haven't been paid yet, but the international fees is definitely not a pro. Many people mentioned this previously and I have not personally been through it, but some of the penalties DaDa has would be 100% illegal in the U.S. However, they can get away with it because if it's legal in China, then it doesn't matter if it's illegal somewhere else. Taking a vacation or having an emergency doesn't matter to DaDa, you miss two classes in a month, no matter what circumstance, you'll be penalized.

Pros

The students are great and the lessons are okay.

Cons

Do not be mislead! Let's start with the salary...They give you an hourly rate, but this is not completely accurate, because if your students don't show up or if you have empty slots, you still have to sit and wait....The worst part is the amount of time that you have to spend off the clock: 1. Writing lengthy lesson reviews and giving homework. 2. Then you have to grade the homework. 3. Every five lessons or so you have to complete student assessments on your regular students. Completing lesson reviews & writing homework can take 10 -15 minutes per student and you get NO pay for this. You get no pay for grading the homework. You get no pay for completing assessments...They say this is all in your regular contract pay. LOL If you have a question, good luck getting an answer per email of messaging...You get no breakdown of your pay so when there is an error, they just say, that is your pay.LOL Who would want to work for a company like this! I just can't anymore! I love my regular students, but I gave my 30-day notice today because this company is utter chaos! Beware...I had the wrong lessons loaded often and could not get the changed until the lesson began...This was not fair to the students or me! I cannot deal with chaos!

Pros

You can work part-time for decent money.

Cons

- If you live in North America, the hours are pretty brutal. Especially if you teach in the morning on the west coast. some people teach at 2 am.. - Your wage for teaching doesn't include the time that it takes you to write up the end of lesson reports for EVERY student you teach after EVERY class. It's a lot of free work that I don't think many students or parents actually read. -The conversion rate from RMB to USD etc is pretty terrible plus Dada charges you to convert your salary from RMB, and most US banks will charge you to receive other currency. It's kind of a hot mess. I lose $60 each month on average. -The tech problems are real on Dada's end. I've seen so many facebook posts about their IT people trying to blame whatever particular problem on the teachers when it's just Dada's servers being overwhelmed. - There isn't any real training or help for questions, just a bunch of snarky people on the facebook group saying "search for the answers yourself". There needs to be more mentors to help with this confusing company. -There's a really strict only 2 days off a month policy. If you take more than that they take 10% out of your entire months salary. And you lose the chance to get the 1000 rmb bonus.

Dear teacher, thanks for providing your honest feedback! We do understand while living in North America that hours can be tough, mostly so on the west coast. We are so thankful for the teaching write ups that the teachers need to do, and understand it takes a little time. Hopefully having already planned courseware and lesson plans helps takes the tension out! Each teacher can use which ever currency they'd like and has options for the pay - learning from teacher experience in the Facebook group seems to be helpful so people get the lowest costs. In regards to questions, we are hiring more mentors and provide a great Q & A at the top of the Facebook group. The admins are also just a message away!
