Difficult but Rewarding
Aug 30, 2022 - Surveillance Investigator in Chicago, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Work Vehicle Gas Card Per Diem when traveling Health, vision, dental Match 401k 6% Everyday is a different day with room to learn and grow. You're in a way your own boss and success or failure starts and ends with you. If you are competitive, driven, and don't mind working on your own in uncomfortable situations this is certainly a fun job. There's always, ALWAYS a pretty good amount of overtime. You get paid from the time you leave your house until the time you get back home! I thinks this company tries to do their best to constantly improve. Management does what they are there to do and I respect their decisions and they also respect and understand their employees considering they also started off as investigstors.
Cons
Work life balance is tough regardless of how much you try to manage it, that's simply a part of the job and should be a main factor on weather you would like to work at Digistream. This job requires you to be tough mentally and physically primarily due to the environment in which your spend of your time and also how you handle yourself in split second stressful situations. You will work in an enclosed vehicle in the summer and winter and you will be put in situations that will certainly make you uncomfortable.

Fun job for a recent grad, but expect burnout due to demanding workload
Jun 22, 2022 - Field Investigator in Alameda, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Very fun. I still tell stories from my time at Digistream to colleagues, much to their amazement at the crazy things I saw. - When your overtime and doubletime hours start accumulating, you can rake in solid paychecks, especially during the very active summer months (I made about $5,000 in June) However, you will be putting in almost 60 hours to achieve this. - The company provides every piece of equipment you need: car, camera, tripod, etc. All you need is the extras, like maybe a lawnchair for your surveillance vehicle interior, a cooler for food, etc. - If you get a good trainer, they can very quickly show you the ropes of the job in your first week. - Company is efficiently run (at least at the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento offices) and you feel supported by your fellow investigators and managers at the office. - The company will reimburse you if you need to buy food to blend in at a restaurant or buy a ticket to sneak into an event etc. - Great on a resume if you continue down the investigations, law enforcement, analyst, etc. career-path. Use the job as a stepping stone.
Cons
- Extremely intense work schedules. I had Mondays and Tuesdays off, and for the rest of the week, I was waking up at 3am to get to the surveillance location on time (which is usually very early morning). - Dangerous work. The most dangerous aspect of this job is the aggressive driving that you will have to do to stay on target as the subject drives around. This may involve high speeds, blasting through yellow lights, etc. Not to mention the occasional subject who lived in a very dangerous area, who will not be happy to find out he is being surveilled! - You will have no social life due to the extreme work hours. Use this job as a stepping stone. After about 6-12 months, you will likely be extremely burned out. Additionally, you do have to write your report and upload your footage once you get home and are no longer on the clock. This can take 30 minutes sometimes which is unfortunate, given you likely just clocked 10+ hours are are exhausted.

Great Leadership and Environment
Jun 10, 2022 - Surveillance Investigator in Minneapolis, MNRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Independent work, learn to use critical thinking and problem solving techniques to better succeed at your craft, awesome management and promotable opportunities from within.
Cons
Long days, not great starting pay, can be a stressful environment, lots of sitting, boredom, dealing with other terrible drivers on the road.
- Former Employee, less than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
They give you a company vehicle and a lot of overtime
Cons
Work in extreme heat, travel 200-300 miles to designated work area, they do not provide you AC unit
- Current Employee★★★★★
Pros
A company that truly values their employees! Unlimited opportunities for growth. Great benefits. The first job where I can really see myself at long term and a future with!
Cons
Communication could be improved slightly.
- Former Employee, more than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
Company car, all equipment, gas and everything is paid for and provided. Haven't found another kind of job like this that is entry-level. There's alot of overtime as well so you make a decent amount just by driving around. good experience, especially if you want to get into law enforcement or fed work. Idk about the other branches, but the one in New England has good management and they're understanding since they started as investigators too.
Cons
The starting pay is really terrible; I'd recommend starting at $18/hr or more honestly. The learning curve is rough, but once you form a routine you're set. Hours are long and it's a lot of sitting around and waiting. When it's cold it's cold, and when it's hot it's hot. Not much more to it.
