I have been working at EORM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Professional development is supported and promoted throughout the business. The business provides internal training, shadowing, and mentoring, but also supports external training and development opportunities. Employees receive bonuses for obtaining professional certifications, presenting at conferences, teaching EHS classes, or publishing a scholarly article. There is also a tuition reimbursement program for employees who wish to further their education.

Another positive is the company leadership. They genuinely care about their employees and want to ensure that EORM\BSI is a great place to work. They are continuously looking for ways to improve and are open to feedback from employees.

    Cons

It is a fast-paced environment and would not be a good fit for someone looking for an environment where they can work at a leisurely pace.

The experience can slightly vary depending on the location you work in.

    Advice to Management

As the company continues to grow it will be important to continue to show your care for employees and to keep the positive atmosphere that EORM employees are accustomed to. Work to find ways to adjust to the growth and changes without sacrificing the amazing company culture of EORM.

I worked at EORM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The founders that are apart of the company of some of the greatest people in the EHS that i've had the pleasure of interacting with. The CEO is one of the friendliest and most genuine people, who always makes time to talk to you regardless of your rank within the company and how busy he is. The other founder is one of the most knowledgeable and humble people that you will ever meet in the EHS field. Both these individuals inspire and energize their employees with their presence, so it will be a sad day for the company if either were to retire.

    Cons

The managers that run operations and sales have really run this company into the ground. They inspire no loyalty and do not genuinely care about their people except their select chosen favorites and friends. They have a set way of doing things and do not take any new input or suggestions. When things aren't working out, they trade jobs and positions between each other rather than giving other people a shot. It's sad how different they are in demeanor/approach vs the founders who have built this company and made it so successful.

    Advice to Management

Having the support of your employees is everything. Actually taking the time to know who they are and connect with them goes a long way. While you guys are sitting in your offices and bombarding your workforce with emails, take a moment to realize that these are actually the people in the field sweating in the sun, sitting in traffic, and breaking their backs in the field. Concentrate on empowering the workforce that you already have rather than treating them like numbers and expendable assets.

    I worked at EORM full-time

    Pros

Lots of room for collaboration. Get to work in many different environments.

    Cons

Company money > employee wellbeing. Two-faced management. Too much driving to client sites.

    Advice to Management

Hire emotionally stable managers to get the best out of employees they manage.

    Pros

Great coworkers and really interesting work. I truly feel as if the work we do makes a difference for our clients. Lots of opportunity to learn new things.

    Cons

Sometimes hours are long and clients can be all over meaning long commutes. Work can be unpredictable.

I have been working at EORM part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Upon joining EORM/BSI I was offered the opportunity to work a part-time schedule which supported my family needs. When deciding to relocate my family they supported my decision and we worked out a remote location relationship that allowed for me to remain as an active employee.
Great co-workers who support each other both professionally and personally.

    Cons

Compensation reduction based on zip code when nothing about the position or support to clients changed.

    Advice to Management

Remember your roots. The positive experiences of the employee is supported by your direct interactions with them. Walking the floor so to speak and talking informally with staff when they are in the office goes a long ways.

    I worked at EORM full-time

    Pros

    Not much for positive feedback.

    Cons

Work excessive hours without OT, bonuses, or recognition. Unreasonable expectations to make rack rate when billed out on jobs at a rate significantly lower. Expect to work 60 hours a week to make goals. Depending on the office there is quite a bit of back stabbing and cliques between the women.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic on the goals and bill out employees at rack rate, so they can have life and good health.

    Pros

Great place to work, friendly staff, and interesting work. Consulting might not be for everyone, but if you are looking for a fast paced work environment concentrated in health and safety then this is an excellent place to work.

    Cons

There can be discontinuity between projects. Random amounts of downtime. Work amount is very dependent on what clients you are placed with.

I have been working at EORM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Once you are able to meet everyone, you have the opportunity to make the job what you want. You are exposed to a lot of technical EHS work. You continue to learn something new every day. Half your time is spent mastering your own technical field, and half your time is spent developing new opportunities. It allows you to be curious and learn what motivates clients and what drives business.

    Cons

Expectations are very high. It is very difficult to fit in all that is required within the time frame of an 8 hour work day. You will be working long extended hours, and most weekends in order to deliver what is expected. Focus is tough because there are so many unrelated responsibilities. Driving to client sites can suck the time out your day. Long road hours.

    Advice to Management

Use positive reinforcement, rather than negative reinforcement when managing your people. Don't tell your employees what they are not doing, but spark motivation by telling them what they are doing right. Try to continue to stay true to your mission, and not let the pressure from the recent acquisition force you to lose focus on your mission, and people.

I have been working at EORM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to work with the smartest and nicest EH&S professionals I have ever worked with! Management is very supportive and want you to succeed. Benefits are good.

    Cons

You are always really busy so it can be hard to switch off. You feel a huge sense of obligation to your colleagues so saying no to new projects can be hard. It is also hard when all your projects are really cool and interesting and you have to choose!

    Advice to Management

It is hard treading the line between driving an active business culture and supporting work life balance. Culturally you do okay with this. Make sure you keep helping employees to avoid burnout.
