I have been working at Eduserv full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    > Job that makes me want to get up in the morning
    > A mix of consultative and laissez-faire management styles
    > Great colleagues, all highly intelligent and friendly people
    > OpenAthens and CHEST departments are breaking records every year

    Cons

Restructure and two rounds of redundancies caused a lot of voluntary leaves and feelings of insecurity for many. We lost some good people.

    Pros

Been here for a few months now, real attitude of lets get stuff down through the whole company, very empowered as an employee to drive my role and personal development.

    Cons

Nothing that i have encountered so far

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing

I have been working at Eduserv full-time

    Pros

    - Great colleagues.
    - Good training opportunities. Professional qualifications are open to pretty much anyone who shows initiative to take them.
    - Friendly atmosphere within the office.
    - Flexible working (Depending on your manager).
    - Good location in Bath (although Eduserv will be moving within the next year).
    - Benefits are good and there is a focus on employee well-being. A masseuse comes in every couple of months which is nice.

    Cons

    - Salary is lower end of market rates for more some employees, often leading to valued people leaving the company.
    - Still a little top heavy.
    - Despite efforts for Eduserv to be an equal employer, in the department I was working in there was an element of "old boys club" mentality with a small minority of people. For this type of company who are constantly changing and developing, this type of mentality is a backwards step and should be squashed asap.

    Advice to Management

Arrange more social events such as Friday drinks.
Arrange more charity events e.g. sponsored walks/cycle with an emphasis on getting all teams involved.
Consider equity as well as equality. Some people require more guidance/support than others to reach the same potential as their peers.

I worked at Eduserv full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's not what it seems but some goood customers, great opportunities for juniors and managers

    Cons

Really disappointing quality of management and executive team. Seem to not not understand the industries or customers, redundancies used to balance the books multiple times without other real plans. Now hiring again, seems so aimless.

    Advice to Management

    Put customers first

I have been working at Eduserv full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-36.5 hour week on most contracts
    -Good salary
    -Discounts on gym memberships
-Opportunities to work with local charities
    -Huge training opportunities
-Very friendly culture with a large emphasis on knowledge sharing

    Cons

Difficult to comment on Cons as the new CEO is currently rolling out changes. Any Cons show a large improvement in comparison to 6 months ago

    Advice to Management

Continue with training and development opportunities

I have been working at Eduserv full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Competitive Salary and great benefits
    - Opportunity for flexible working and a great work/life balance
    - A well balanced macro-management style, which gives me empowerment and the ability to make the role my own.
    - Employee well being is taken seriously with many benefits to help.
    - Very good pension scheme.
    - Friendly and welcoming staff across the business.

    Cons

    - Work environment a little 'old fashioned'. The walls etc are whites and grey, which does not generate the most stimulating environment.

    Advice to Management

The office space could do with a refresh. Maybe bring in some new colors, music and more interactive / informative screens and posters. Would help make the work place a little more engaging.

    Pros

Great benefits one of the best pension schemes, 27 days holiday flexible working (subject to role and manager). Great people

    Cons

OpenAthens part of the business is excellent and well run. The other parts of the business lack direction and leadership and are poorly managed. There are no clearly defined services and they are a long way behind the curve with regards to technology.

People are often given roles but don't have the required skills and it becomes the blind leading the blind.

Had a lot of potential but I have become further removed from the IT industry since joining.

    Advice to Management

It's people that make a business a success, trust in those who you employ and listen to what they can offer.

Look at the layers of Management, it's a small organisation and has too many managers.

Don't allow the exec the power to bypass process to give their friends a job or buy technical solutions from people they know.

Once you lose the trust and respect of your workforce it's an uphill battle.

Listen to those who have left and provided feedback in their exit interview. That many people can't be wrong about what's happening.

    I worked at Eduserv full-time

    Pros

Friendly Staff, Central Location in Bath, nice offices, reasonable facilities., CEO is leaving but taking a massive pay-out!

    Cons

Pay is poor, training non existent, poor people skills in senior management, decision making not allowed unless its the CIO, company primarily run for the directors pay £100-100K PA plus final salary pension scheme, not really a charity as no charitable work undertaken apart from selling discounted software to universities,

    Advice to Management

Decision making should be pushed down the organisation and not the exclusive right of the CIO, give credit where its due, run the business as a business not an exec plaything, invest in training the exec on how to run a business and invest in people skills training.

I have been working at Eduserv full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible working (Depending on manager, day of week, phase of moon)
    Reasonable HR team.
New CEO looks to be pushing company in a better direction

    Cons

Many layers of management (that all like to conflict each other)

Poor customer focus, can lead to frustration when management deside to spend time looking for someone to blame, rather than focus on providing the best possible customer service (That could be done, there is just a lot of fake red tape)

    Under market pay scale
    Very rare pay rises

    Advice to Management

Focus on the customers 1st. Then look at your employees; Try to retain them, (Look at work environment, pay, and leadership)
