Pros

Pay is good after union dues, health insurance and tier 2 taxes. retirement is way better than social security if you can last the 30 years thats required for full retirement. good health insurance.

Cons

Working a full 7 hours outdoors in the rain, snow, heat, cold, humidity, mud, unavoidable rain puddles. carefully walk a few miles a day over rocks over train tracks and railroad ties.20 minute lunch break. No regular sleep schedule if you work on the road 12 hours on 10 hours off 12 hours on 10 hours off. you give up a lot of family time and you have to work most holidays.
