Pros

- Decent accommodations on the River line. -Pay is alright, but not good enough to literally have no life.

Cons

CSX dropped my entire classes "free for a year" health insurance perk and many of us didn't get the insurance back. I don't know if this is some sort of money saving scheme they set up, but you as an employee would have to sit on the phone for 2+ hours with CSX Connect so they can TRY and figure out what they did wrong, but will ultimately tell you they have no clue or that the person in charge isn't in the office right now. Basically getting the run around by the company you work for. This didn't just happen to me, it happened to many of the new hires. I went into this company well aware of the abuse the management has put it through, well aware of the awful reviews from the employees, but I figured they were biased and based off of the way the company USED to be...don't try and convince yourself of the same thing. This company is terrible to work for. The managers stalk you while you work and are extremely rude, unprofessional and uncooperative with getting the job done. You are given very little training, which is also poor quality training so you are thrown out into the field, not only inexperienced but also with the full responsibility and burden of being fired for any reason they see fit because the union doesn't cover you until 60-90 days AFTER you get your conductor license and are out on your own. The pay is alright, but that's it. You won't be rolling in money, you won't be rich, don't buy into the fabricated hype regarding pay because it just isn't true, period. My decision to leave was a gradual decision. I started having second thoughts when I realized the company doesn't actually care about safety, though they preach it and pretend to care about safety...but the moment you slow down operations because you're unsure about something or are taking your time because you're under trained, you will get yelled at. Then my son was turned away from the doctor because his insurance wasn't valid, which CSX admitted was their fault multiple times, and that was when the company crossed the line. We all know that corporations want money, money, money, but some corporations are also able to genuinely care about its employees and CSX certainly isn't one of them. Unfortunately CSX doesn't recognize that it's 2019, and there are so many options out there for better employment, yet they are shocked when an entire new hire class quits within the first year. You have more of a life being an active duty soldier than working for CSX, take that into consideration.
