Pros

Having a claims desk there is always job security. This company also has a great financial/secure foundation. The pay is very good, the benefits are also very good, and the 401(k) match is excellent. No matter how much I might complain about this company, they do reward hard work.

Cons

Workload is unmanageable. It’s just never ending exhaustion and fatigue that only worsens as time passes. I totally understand that claims is tough to begin with, but when I agreed to this job, they said the max caseload would be 150 claims:, a few years later and it’s been consistently at 220 and has gone up to 245. Again I know claims is tough and I like to show that I am capable of exceeding expectations, but I just want to make sure that whoever is reading this review knows that this role at this company will train the life out of you. Also I see a lot of reviews saying that this company is “woke”. I’m not a fan of using that word but I would say it’s pretty true. They do push their agenda very forcefully and had us attend some type of race training/seminar. To me this isn’t a huge deal but I wanted to address it since I see it in the reviews. I thought it was pretty easy to be able to move up in this company if you work hard, which I still believe is the case for the most part, but I am starting to feel pigeonholed. I hope time proves me wrong. Senior level management is extremely out of touch and they don’t give a flying you know what about the employees, we have major turnover and we are very replaceable to upper management. I understand this way of thinking among seniors, that’s probably how every company is, but at Chubb it seems extreme. To top it off, the work from home policy is outdated. Adjusters have been handling claims full-time from home for the most part the past two years and we’ve been making record profits and our combined ratio is in the low 80s to mid 80%. Yet they still insist on us coming into the office three days a week and paying these crazy gas prices. I understand it’s their prerogative and I can respect that, but just want to be sure I am addressing how they really feel about the topic since it’s a hard but an item these days. When I started with chubb I believe this to be a company I could very likely retire with. At this point in time, I don’t see myself being here in 2 to 3 years.

Pros

Global reach, brand name/reputation, nice technology equipment and solid networking. Opportunity for internal mobility. Good 401k match.

Cons

Incredibly slow systems and stifling bureaucracy. Culture is overall relaxed but not very hospitable, which is likely both a symptom and cause of a high-turnover environment. Raises are well below inflation. Moral does not seem considerably high and the bureaucratic nature of work hinders development. All of these factors combined negatively impact motivation. Very little open discussion about marketplace trends and tedious processes make the role feel very administrative despite being more analytical at other firms who have improved their systems. The firm has done a great job of diversifying across product lines and geographies, but a very poor job of talent retention and upgrading systems, which are the long-term tailwinds that’ll put Chubb at the forefront of the industry.
