Pros

I have learned many valuable skills. I have had the opportunity to convey to a professional GIS user community educational techniques and workflow procedures that assist them on their way to a productive work environment. I took my job and performance very seriously and I believe that was demonstrated by my communication skills as well as every measurable metric assigned to my position. I achieved excellent production numbers as well as above average responses to both customer satisfaction surveys and incident quality evaluation scores. I also twice received acknowledgement by the ESRI support management team at the quarterly support meeting in April 2009.

Cons

No longer an employee of ESRI, I could now freely and frankly discuss my termination with my peers and friends who work at ESRI. I have no prior disciplinary action at ESRI related to any of my professional or casual acquaintances. I had never reached an impasse with any other manager at ESRI. What initially began as a genuine and professional concern for the customers of ESRI has resulted in a character assassination at a level high enough to have my employment with ESRI unjustly terminated. My work at ESRI speaks for itself. My employment record is flawless. I was one of the highest performers in Desktop Support. I have never accosted nor threatened any employee of ESRI. I do acknowledge the fact that I did use corporate email for personal matters, but it has come to my attention that most, if not all ESRI employees use that same system for matters that are not directly related to work. Not once in any of the meetings with Human Resources was my performance brought into the conversation. Not once has any mention of concern or disturbance been related to my behavior by my peers or managers. In their investigation of my behavior, I would have expected Human Resources to interview the parties with whom I had candid and frank discussions to determine whether I was inappropriate or a threat in any way, but none of my peers were questioned.

Pros

Esri pays your health insurance. A few extra holidays that other companies may not offer.

Cons

-Below average pay for California. Already a struggle living out here due to cost of living. -Support services is a mess. We have to bend over backwards for customers always teetering on scope of support. Might as not even have those guidelines anymore if it's a constant battle for internal resources to back you. -Constant releases of software that breaks customer workflows. Too many bugs. Lack of QA. -Whats the point of middle management if all decisions have to come from higher ups that have no understanding of supports day by day. -Unwillingness to let senior employees work from home. And if you do work from home they hold it against you if you want to apply to an internal position. Almost like a thinly veiled threat. -Other teams feel the need to steam roll support sometimes, often leading to fragmented relationships. -Lastly there is way too much work and never enough people.
