Pros

Your experience at this firm will largely depend on the group you work for. Having worked at several offices and in different groups, I’ve found HNTB to be the best place I’ve ever worked at as well as the very worst. Stable leadership with a sustainable growth mindset. If on a good team, you will have a wonderful experience. Many folks work their entire careers at HNTB. 3 weeks vacation at start

Cons

If on a dysfunctional team, expect lots of long hours, verbal abuse and time cards that don’t reflect hours worked. Office leadership can often be slow to respond to these issues. Lousy benefits. Retirement matching is not very good. Company grew too fast in the past years and it has lost some of the culture that made it a great place to work. It has become very very top heavy. Offices are bursting at the seams with project managers that lack technical skills. Emphasis of only rewarding “Pursuit Champions” has a negative effect on technical level staff.

Pros

While the culture varies by office, I found the California offices to have a very friendly, collaborative, and energetic atmosphere. The company also puts genuine effort into its internal events, consistently investing time and resources to make them well organized and enjoyable for employees. In addition, there is a strong culture of continuous learning. Employees are encouraged to develop new skills, and the company provides meaningful support for professional growth and ongoing development.

Cons

It used to be a great company, but its rapid expansion has made the organization feel less structured and less efficient. Compared with many other firms, the workload is exceptionally heavy, and there is a strong expectation that employees will work through long, exhausting hours to meet demanding deadlines. Performance expectations are also very high. As a result, employee turnover is significant, and it is not uncommon for people to leave or even return to their previous employers.
