I worked at HNTB full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits. High $$. I had to think about 20 words to thing about Pros but that is all I came up with.

    Cons

Lack of training. Over exaggerated job position at interview. Was told a team environment was in place but found out there was no cohesion among the team and everyone was on their own. Office staff was a cut throat environment.

    Advice to Management

Give the proper training for those that start out. Don't favor employees over others. Stop telling employees you are too busy to help them when they are in the next office having 1-2 hour personal conversations.

I have been working at HNTB full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work/life balance even though you are frowned upon if you need to utilize it.

    Cons

The people are very hard to work with and they are very judgmental, everyone is all about the gossip, the moral is low as the employees are just worker bees, too many people that think they are chiefs, bad calls on jobs, no respect for upper management, little room for advancement, you will become very stressed due to the office and other offices politics to where you no longer want to work here, not a pleasant place to work, so get use to putting on a fake smile and getting through your day.

I worked at HNTB full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company Vehicle; Good health care and decent benefits; ESOP; Seemingly unlimited overtime available

    Cons

Absolutely ZERO work/life balance; thrown to the wolves on day 1 of employment - no training period whatsoever; completely incompetent management

    Advice to Management

Quit. None of you know what your job function is or how to perform in it's full capacity. You're lack of consideration for those under you is abhorrent and disgusting.

I worked at HNTB (Less than a year)

    Pros

Ample PC software and support, many young smart co-workers, decent benefits and salary, nice/new office space.

    Cons

My comments pertain only to HNTB's NYC's Project Control Department.

Many young and green field employees performing tasks above their knowledge skills without adequate coaching and training. Resident Engineers (one who was recently promoted) inept in FTA and MTA third party contract regulations and requirements, openly using Contractors cost loaded change order proposals as a basis and tool in developing their Independent Cost Estimates. Chaotic management, frequent moving of positions and people without notice. Lack of communication and direction to their employees. My direct Manager appeared to be lacking people skills, creating a somewhat awkward feeling when interacting together. The Department appears to be slapped together overnight to fulfill company goals and future client contracts.

    Advice to Management

Promote a more pro-active business atmosphere, especially for the personnel running projects in the field. Hire Managers that are not only book smart, but have real time experience and have people skills.

I have been working at HNTB full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

competitive pay, nice work environment, good people, good benefits

    Cons

upper management heads are in the clouds. out of touch with employees, push for sales and numbers, ignoring the needs of employees, no incentives, no flex work schedules, etc. and management is not-trained or evaluated on their ability to affectively manage people.

    Advice to Management

learn how to manage people. give incentives and recognize people's hard work and allow for flexible work schedules.
