Pros

Competitive pay at entry level, making it an attractive starting point Solid benefits package including health insurance and stock options Remote-first model offering flexibility to work from home

Cons

The management is deeply ineffective, marked by a lack of professionalism, accountability, and basic leadership skills. Many appear more focused on preserving their positions-roles they would struggle to justify elsewhere-while being compensated well beyond their actual value. The company once stood for innovation, fresh thinking, and genuine care for its employees. That culture has eroded. Today, the priority seems to be keeping senior leadership satisfied, while discouraging independence and penalizing those who ask difficult but necessary questions. A toxic environment has taken hold, driven by inner circles, favoritism, and nepotism. Employees are treated as expendable assets rather than people. The internal structure increasingly resembles a rigid hierarchy where career growth depends less on merit and more on alignment with the “right” groups. Those outside these circles face limited opportunities and are expected to accept poor treatment without question. Despite frequent messaging about employee wellbeing, the reality does not reflect those claims. The gap between words and actions is stark. What was once a forward-thinking company now feels like an average organization that has lost its direction under weak leadership, while still attempting to present itself as something greater.

Pros

- Kind and talented co-workers - Generous AI token spend - Fairly transparent company (has been getting less transparent over the years) - Lots of opportunity for impact

Cons

- Product management discipline is quite lacking since the new CTO joined - Microsoft culture is adding more chaos and stress, and causing projects to actually go slower - Managers are afraid to tell the truth to Mikhail about the loopholes in engineering; they just want to look good, so they rush their teams to ship crap - Top engineering leaders are moving out of management roles or leaving the company - Tobi used to be far more involved in ensuring a high engineering bar, but seems to have handed over the reins to the new Microsoft regime
