Just another giant, from an IT perspective - Technical Staff WellPoint Employee Review

Pros

The group I work with is experienced and professional, and we get along well. Current manager is probably the best I have ever worked under. Benefits are about average, or possibly a little better than average, but the health insurance is more costly than one might expect, mostly because it is pretty comprehensive. If you are flexible in your tech skills, it is possible to move around in the IT organization.

Cons

Like any large publicly traded company, your experience will depend entirely on the particular group you work in. Overly-reliant on IBM for infrastructure. It's a mixed result, with some groups being good and professional, and others less than useful. Stock market likes the new CEO, but a new CEO might feel a need to mark his territory some time in the next year or so. Government changes in health insurance regulations make everyone in the company a little jumpy.

Pros

The company culture, people, and work environment are great. The pay and benefits are above average except they are skimpy with PTO.

Cons

The workload is insane. (I work in IT.) Projects are promised based on what will make the managers look good, not on what is realistic. We never have time to do anything right, so we frequently have to make time to do it over. And that time comes out of our personal lives, those of us who have managed to hang on to one at all. We knew going in it wasn't a 40 hour week, but it has gone from the occasional 45-50 hour week to 10 x 6 or 8 x 7 as the norm, and we are on salary. We get resources too late in the project to train them to be much good, and training them takes time away from the time we can spend doing everything because we have no time to train!
