Overall a great company, but an enormous company with some branches that need pruning. - Senior Technology Manager WellPoint Employee Review

Pros

- The feeling that I made a difference in the lives of people inside and outside the company. - Under former CEO / CIO great progress in healthcare insurance technology innovation. These ladies rocked. - Virtual company, could work anywhere or chime in for important meetings even on vacation - Loved my work as an IT Manager, and plenty to do

Cons

- I worked in the early morning, broke around dinner, worked at night, sometimes in the night - Politics got flakey with the pressure to compete and deliver during implementation of Healthcare Reform (posturing, positioning, scapegoating, cutting corners, excessive demands on overworked employees that sort of thing) - Healthcare Reform competing with shareholder greed - sometimes to grow you have to invest and play the long game - Limited training budget with high demand for continuous improvement

Pros

The company culture, people, and work environment are great. The pay and benefits are above average except they are skimpy with PTO.

Cons

The workload is insane. (I work in IT.) Projects are promised based on what will make the managers look good, not on what is realistic. We never have time to do anything right, so we frequently have to make time to do it over. And that time comes out of our personal lives, those of us who have managed to hang on to one at all. We knew going in it wasn't a 40 hour week, but it has gone from the occasional 45-50 hour week to 10 x 6 or 8 x 7 as the norm, and we are on salary. We get resources too late in the project to train them to be much good, and training them takes time away from the time we can spend doing everything because we have no time to train!
