    I worked at Gen-Probe full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

On site cafeteria. Large campus. Most people are nice.

    Cons

Poor morale. Executive turnover. Unnecessary layoffs and cutbacks.

    Advice to Management

Local management does well to work as a team. Headquarters management is disconnected from SD site and appears to be dismantling key parts of the company.

    I worked at Gen-Probe full-time

    Pros

Worked here a number of years and it was a good experience. Company culture was great and was a pleasant place to work at.

    Cons

From what I hear and also personal experience, the salaries were slightly under market values compared to competitors. It was a trade off as there were other non-salary benefits.

    Advice to Management

Company culture was great, and other non-salary benefits were good. It would be nice if salary was more on par with market rate.

    Pros

The work/technology is interesting, depending on what team you are on you have the ability to be given a lot of responsibility, overall the people are friendly and smart and there is a good work/life balance

    Cons

Hologic has developed a culture of bringing on temps for indefinite amounts of time and taking years to offer them a full-time position, if at all. You are not given the opportunity for career development, benefits, and a variety of other things despite doing the same work as permanent employees of your level.

There have also been a horrible series of layoffs in which management has provided zero transparency, laying off many workers with no notice for reasons not related to performance issues and without notifying their managers. This is particularly difficult for temporary workers who are given no severance and no notice to look for other jobs.

    Advice to Management

Management seriously needs to work on transparency. The recent layoffs have really lowered morale and if things continue as they are, Hologic will lose great workers to other companies. Please work on fixing this. Overall, I have enjoyed my time here and have worked with some great people but in the past few months I have seen considerable disrespect of employees from the management that could easily have been avoided by candid, open dialogue.

Additionally, the temp culture really needs to change. Keeping temps as temps on indefinite contracts for longer than a 6-month "evaluation" period is not right. You are able to assess if they are a good fit for the company in that amount of time and keeping them for longer seems as though you just do not want to provide healthcare and benefits for them. It is in your interest to treat them well so that if there are openings you have trained employees ready to contribute immediately.
