I have been working at Gen-Probe full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The San Diego facility has some great employees. The work we do is impactful to people's lives. Hologic and the new leadership team has really turned the business around and it is a great place to work.

    Cons

Because Genprobe operated like a mom and pop/family feel, the organizational culture is still acclimating to the "new" Hologic. (it's been over 4 years!)

    Advice to Management

You will never please everyone. Sadly, no matter how much leadership tries to explain business logic and rationale for tough decisions, not everyone is willing to hear it. Keep focused on growth and creating a positive environment for the people. Those who appreciate it and understand it will stay. It's a great place to be!

    I worked at Gen-Probe full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

On site cafeteria. Large campus. Most people are nice.

    Cons

Poor morale. Executive turnover. Unnecessary layoffs and cutbacks.

    Advice to Management

Local management does well to work as a team. Headquarters management is disconnected from SD site and appears to be dismantling key parts of the company.

I worked at Gen-Probe (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Gen-Probe was a great company, always professional, always cutting edge. Within a few short years became the the gold standard for amplified molecular diagnostics.

    Cons

The sell out to Hologic. Holx is a company that does little in achieving organic growth, therefore buys other companies to become a " we have that too " entity. Many were let go and many more to go in the future as there are too many duplicate field positions.

    Pros

Excellent salary and benefits, on-site gym and fun company celebrations.

Company is big, so some bureaucracy.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Gen-Probe full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very flexible schedule and I get to travel to cities and countries I've never been too before. The people here are extremely intelligent in R&D.

    Cons

There is little to no direction with this company. One hand is doing one thing, while the other is doing something else. R&D needs commercialization and commercial needs R&D and the executives need to allow the teams to make these decisions.

    Advice to Management

Stay out of the way of progress. Let everyone konw what the vision and goals are for this company and make sure that the old way of doing things will not be tolerated.
