I have been working at GuideOne Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work / life balance. Supportive of my work. Lots of resources available. My boss is great to work for. Great community of people. They care about their people.

    Cons

Some departments are struggling with change. The staff is aged and turning over. Systems are somewhat outdated. Need to hear from senior managers more.

    Advice to Management

Support and compensate your high performers.

I worked at GuideOne Insurance full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice people, good product and upper management with good foresight

    Cons

IT management completely spending time making themselves look good while never getting anything important done. Lots of buddy buddy deals where if you are friends then you move up get better work, If not you get the exiled to some meaningless position and parked forever.

    Advice to Management

Find a plan that works and execute on it. Quit counting on the idiots you have to do anything right.

I worked at GuideOne Insurance (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent work culture and challenging work environment. Manager and mentor were friendly and got an opportunity to work on multiple real time projects.

    Cons

Full time internship(40 hours/week) could be a better option rather than part time even during regular school hours.

I worked at GuideOne Insurance (More than a year)

    Pros

Have lunch available, people are nice to work with

    Cons

Contractors have to pay $5 a day for lunch-even if they don't eat
Management only keeps favorites and keeps under performing with the expectation that others will pick up the slack
Leadership doesn't keep focused on what they want and keep changing the priority

    Advice to Management

Stick with a plan or fail miserably

I worked at GuideOne Insurance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Free lunch, but repetitive menu and yes the black bean burger.

    Cons

Insufficient parking and a long walk to the building. IT is in the basement underground and in dire need of repairs. For the longest time the atrium was leaking water and you could see buckets lined up. The bathroom is gross and looks like it's 50 years old often backing up. Tenured employees are shifting around from one reorg to another and lower level staff if they're lucky get to systems analyst position and that's the ceiling unless you're close to someone that's in a position to help you get promoted. The hard working people are entry level programmers and yes the company hires a bunch of interns to pick up the slack. About 70% are contractors. Office politics run a muck at this place.

    Advice to Management

Multiple reorgs don't fool anyone. It's the lower level laborers that you should appreciate because without them you wouldn't accomplish anything.

    Pros

Free lunch, benifits are pretty competitive.

    Cons

Work is never appriciated. Senior staff expects you not to speak to them, considers it rude and disrespectful.

    Advice to Management

Skill search and positively reinforce the staff. Eliminate negativity. Test employees with longevity skill. Decide if they are actually qualified for their positions.

I worked at GuideOne Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Office location was very close to home. Most insurance companies in metro Atlanta locate in north Fulton and Cobb counties. GuideOne was located in Stone Mountain away from heavy traffic.

    Cons

Staff, including management, was not very professional. Management did not understand comprehensive claims handling and therefore did not distribute cases in fair manner.

    Advice to Management

Promote into management only experienced claims handlers

I have been working at GuideOne Insurance full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company is in a change mode. There are several key systems being developed right now. Working location and hours are flexible.

    Cons

Benefits are not competitive. IT Leadership is stale and could use a refresh. Too many managers are in that role because of tenure and not because they've shown leadership qualities.

    Advice to Management

Rather than working to keep your job, take better care of those who are the doers. Focus of company has shifted from employee satisfaction to business performance and that is killing morale.
