I have been working at Jefferies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Jefferies is one of the only remaining full service investment bank that has a powerful culture and a mission statement employees truly believe in. In an industry where compensation is similar wherever you go, culture, ownership and pride in your firm is the difference maker for employees and ones clients.

    Cons

It is currently a cyclically challenged business.

    Advice to Management

do all you can to sustain this powerful culture

I worked at Jefferies (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Meritocracy: smart, driven worker; paid well

    Cons

Typical Wall St. cons: long hours, tough and rough personalities, not enough support from the company.

    Advice to Management

    Treat all employees like gold

I worked at Jefferies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

None. Before deciding to leave, I asked myself repeatedly, what will I miss about Jefferies? Each time the answer was, nothing.

    Cons

Jefferies was a good place to work for. I enjoyed going to work. I felt like I made a difference. I felt valued. All that changed when IT was outsourced. Overnight, management's attitude changed. We were no longer an asset but just a resource. Management only looks out for management. It's a very selfish environment. Zero room for growth.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees because Jefferies is NOT the "best place to work". Stop bombarding us to vote!

Awful IT organization - internal applications and IT support are terrible.

Stop trying to be a bulge bracket firm without the resources.

    Pros

Good culture is required for any organization to grow. Opportunities for capable resources should exist in organisations.

    Cons

Incompetent management should not be hired or promoted. It is very demoralising for genuinely hard working resources.

    Advice to Management

Think broadly and carefully review your resources to ensure you can build on legacy of hard working expert resources.

    Neutral Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Smart and talented staff, although the more recent hires are a cut below

    Cons

Even for Wall Street mgmt seems to have little regard for it's top performers
Flavor of the day politics are more important than profitability
    Very short term focus
If you are one of Rich and Brian's guys then you can do anything, if not then it depends on day to day how you stand
    Super aggressive retention stock policy

    Advice to Management

Let the people running their departments do their job and stop the Monday morning quarterbacking. If a group is making money or losing money it is not always a reflection of their talent or dedication. There is a huge tendency for management to look at the short term results in our business groups and not look at the landscape of how the business will change going forward.
Also cut the sanctimonious PR stuff about "partner employees" - it does more harm than good.

I worked at Jefferies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good location - midtown Manhattan

    Cons

Usually you'd think a trading unit would reward people based on performance, however that's not the case there. Firing the hardest working people without notice, fine. But paying 1-mon not even compensating for unused vacation is too low.

    Advice to Management

None since management never listens to employees.
