To extend that family analogy: there are favorites who get special treatment. Conversely, your extra effort (or extra-extra effort) often goes unnoticed or unrecognized. Or at least it feels that way, which bothers me because otherwise the company feels so personal. There is always a little pushing and shoving between siblings, even if you mostly stay friends. Looks like especially over in engineering. Sales seems to lack accountability, although occasionally someone is finally called out - yay!! Engineering also appears to struggle with getting long-time employees to follow direction or standards - they have learned to just do whatever they please - though i think management is trying to improve that.
