"Pros and Cons of Working at Literati: Fulfilling Mission-Driven Work in a Fast-Paced Environment"
Mar 5, 2023 - Logistics ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
1.Mission-driven culture: Literati is a company that is passionate about getting books into children's hands. If you share this passion, you'll find the work you do here to be both fulfilling and meaningful. 2.Creative and innovative work: Literati values creativity and innovation, and you'll have the opportunity to work on projects that require both. This can be incredibly stimulating and rewarding. 3.Nation-wide employee base: Literati has an integrated nation-wide employee base, which can provide opportunities for collaboration and a diverse work experience. 4.Competitive benefits: Literati offers competitive benefits packages, including healthcare, 401(k), paid time off, and more. 5.Career development: Literati is a growing company, and as such, there are many opportunities for career development and advancement.
Cons
1.Fast-paced environment: The fast-paced nature of the work can be exciting, but it can also be stressful for some people who prefer a more relaxed work environment. 2.Communication challenges: With an integrated nation-wide employee base, communication can sometimes be challenging. If you're not used to working remotely or managing virtual teams, this can be a disadvantage.

Fast growth, and the opportunity to make a difference!
Feb 8, 2023 - Director, Customer Support in Austin, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Literati has a delightful company culture. When in the office you will hear people collaborating, laughing, having lunch together, and getting serious work done. (The office is also dog friendly, and in a great location in downtown Austin!) - Recognition is a part of who we are: there is a quarterly company meeting that features peer-recognized awards on all teams, and a slack channel dedicated to #gratitude - This is a company that values creative contributions and always welcomes thought-partnership from team members - The C-Suite communicates regularly about the priorities of the company, even though priorities can change quickly in a startup - There is an opportunity to build processes and systems that make a difference and leave a legacy - We work hard, but work/life balance is valued here. Our company value #5 is: we take care of ourselves so we can take care of others
Cons
- In true startup form: we're often building the plane while flying it. If you're not comfortable coming up with creative solutions during times of ambiguity, then iterating as you learn - this may not be the place for you - Priorities shift often. You've got to be willing to get to pivot on a dime and put your full effort toward other initiatives

Amazing Culture and Fun Problems to Solve!
Feb 8, 2023 - Director of Data ScienceRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
We're an experiment-driven culture, so people are game to test out of the box ideas. Everyone is extremely kind and caring. It makes sense given that people come here to help children develop reading skills. Literati is really flexible about time off or taking an hour to care for your family. You're trusted to take the time you need to come to work refreshed. Even senior leadership makes a point of taking time off each quarter. Leadership listens to feedback and ideas. Between the kids book clubs and book fairs products, there are tons of interesting problems to work on. We have well developed career development and feedback processes. So it's much more clear how your career can progress than a couple years ago.
Cons
We still are a start up. Reprioritization happens often. The long term vision is clear, but expect a good amount of context switching. We're still building our engineering and data systems. Things are not well organized yet. We give people broad mandates with clear objectives, but not specific directions on how to accomplish the objectives. So you need to be comfortable owning your role.

Love working here!
Feb 21, 2023 - Customer Support Associate IIRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Caring managers, great training, promotion opportunities, really are working on a cause that matters (kid's literacy).
Cons
If you're uncomfortable on the phone, this is a phone heavy position, but that's not necessarily a con for everyone.

Great career growth, people and projects
Feb 8, 2023 - Senior Accountant in Austin, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Teams are built with incredible leaders and mentors which is very beneficial to someone early in their career - Feedback is a regular occurrence and can be requested at any time from managers or colleagues on your team and cross functionally - Employees are top of mind and treated with respect - Managers set reasonable expectations for projects and deadlines to be met
Cons
- Team members can change frequently with employees leaving to seek out other opportunities outside of Literati but this is expected in the startup space. In this same thought, change is to be expected but happens regularly here.

Pros
My first year as a member of the fulfillment crew. In just two years I can't believe how far I have come running a team getting promoted to supervisor and the culture we have built is fun and feedback centric and we get things done as a team while having fun doing it and listening to some good music. I was able to get myself into a leadership position with a little hard work and care for the job. It still astounds me how much the skills I learned here have improved my life and career, but I had to work hard and meet my leadership halfway on my development. Nevertheless, I enjoy what I do, and every day is a chance to grow and learn.
Cons
I would say that sometimes we can dream big, which I love, but sometimes we get so wrapped up in what a flawless world would look like that we fail to comprehend what it really takes to manage the fulfillment center. I would also adore for our other departments to visit and gain a little more insight into the fulfilling life on a daily basis. I firmly believe that until you walk a mile in someone else's shoes, you can never truly understand what they do or go through, which could help us plan a little better once we see it in real time.

Great Place to Work with a Good Mission
Feb 9, 2023 - Principal Data Engineer in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Nearly everyone working at Literati is there because they want to be. Helping children learn and get better at reading, through Kids book subscriptions as well as school Book Fairs, is very rewarding. The people working at Literati care.
Cons
The company is in Austin with many remote employees -- getting everyone physically together is rare. Time zone differences can be a little annoying.

Still fairly newer on the growth side so many new ideas that just cannot be implemented yet. Growing pains are good pains
