I have been working at MKS Instruments full-time

    Pros

Management understands details & is not afraid to act. Strong culture of accountability & continuous improvement

    Cons

Can be a bit cheap. Some functions are led by people who have come up from a small company background & are in over their head.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, but don’t be afraid to recognize accomplishments of folks lower in organization

    Pros

    Good company with standard benefits

    Cons

Slow response to innovations, lots of complicated internal process, white male dominated place, office is old

    Advice to Management

Profits share with employees, more education and training

I worked at MKS Instruments full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice onsite Cafeteria with variety of food options.

    Cons

Many to mention: Senior Management are very distant from the reality of the Operations. Many back stabbing scenarios to list. Employee Morales are very down. No proper planning. Every End-of-quarter is a nightmare to go thru quarter after quarter. Job security is non-existent. Most employees are either looking for work elsewhere, or just have couple of years for retirement so they don't care. The only way to have your voice heard (temporarily) is by showing upper management a job offer from another company and giving the company a notice.

    Advice to Management

Stop attending useless meetings or spending wasteful times on generating fancy reports that add NO values and no one cares to read. Listen to your employees.

    Pros

Challenging and interesting projects with lots of support. A general enthusiasm for the work. Motivated and brilliant co-workers.

    Cons

Free coffee was mismanaged and taken away. Cafeteria food isn't good.
    Numerous IT issues.

    Advice to Management

Give us free and quality coffee. You'll get back what you spend 10-fold.

IT procedures need to be addressed.

    Pros

Flexible hours and work environment make it easy to accommodate a busy life. Generally people are very nice and intelligent.

    Cons

Silo groups makes it difficult to gain support on certain projects. Company vision is only about maximizing shareholder value.

    Advice to Management

Put employees first. Or at least second. Currently it is shareholders, customers, employees. That should be reviewed.

    Pros

Good and interesting product, some of the folks in non-managerial roles are great to work with.

    Cons

Fair portion of management, executive and on down, has no clue about managing professionals and employees. There is a revolving door of employees, and people are laid off on a whim. Some of the laid off employees have many years of experience that obviously means nothing. The short term vision, wall street appeasement is all the rage and some basics, like strategy, employee engagement are totally lost. For example: management stopped taking employees surveys because they did not like what employees were saying. To top it off, there is small portion of management in quality that is plain mental.

    Advice to Management

No point doing that, management already knows everything. /s

    Pros

Somewhat salary base. Free parking place.

    Cons

First they start smiling then back stabbings. Revolving doors. No recognition and be prepared to depart if you can not take the criticize from you boss who is trying to justify his position in a front of upper management.

    Advice to Management

None. Fish stinks from the head.

    Pros

    Benefits package is good
Employees are allowed to function with autonomy
Access to industry experts and technology leaders thought the company

    Cons

Resource and staff limited, reinvestment into organization is not strong
Organization broken into silos, roles and responsibilities poorly defined
Pay increases, options, vacation awarded based on seniority

    Advice to Management

The vision of Profitable and Sustainable Growth looks good from the outside but has not been effectively driven to meaningful goals at lower levels in the organization.
