I have been working at NAUTO full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The work is very rewarding. Nauto is right on the edge of innovation, pushing the envelope on IoT, AI on the edge and real-time data processing. You can wear many hats and get involved wherever you can help aside from your main tasks. I have seen company initiatives grow out of side-projects and hackathons here. The company definitely went through rough patches, but that's how it is in a Startup. It is not for everyone...

    Cons

We have a lot of opportunities and need to make very hard decisions about focus. We haven't done so well in that regard and still need to improve. We found product market fit, now it is time to stay the course and not to "get distracted".

    Advice to Management

Please, please stay focussed and have realistic expectations about resources we have to deliver our roadmap. Improve our brand. It should be more visible to the outside that we are actually one of the few startups that are doing pretty good.

I have been working at NAUTO full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Very exciting technology space that combines AI, IOT, Cloud, and Edge computing. A technologist's dream come true! Driven by the mission to save lives and already creating a significant impact.

      Cons

Nauto has many opportunities...thanks to its superior technology and product. But that also stretches the team sometimes. Typical of a startup in hyper growth phase.

      Advice to Management

      Celebrate more.

I have been working at NAUTO full-time for more than a year

      Pros

For better or for worse, this has been the best job I have ever worked for. I love the speed of a startup and having the ability to affect real change. The employees have all become my friends, which makes working with them even better. Also, the benefits are amazing. Not only do they offer unlimited PTO and have great medical insurance, they have daily benefits such as catered lunch (food truck Fridays!), snacks, dinners,...

      Cons

I think it takes a certain person to work for a startup. The hours can be long and since the company is starting off, there is a lot of trial and error. This can be frustrating for those who are used to working at larger companies.

      Advice to Management

Listening can go a long way.

I have been working at NAUTO full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Fast pace environment. Great team work. Hands-on executive leadership with a mission to save lives. Learning everyday and making the product more valuable. Amazing people to work with.

      Cons

A lot of great opportunities but not enough time.

      Advice to Management

Significant improvement in focus and strategy alignment in the past six months with the new executive team. Please keep being focused and don't get distracted as it is already showing results.

I have been working at NAUTO full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Great engineering culture and a solid tech stack (Golang, Qubole, TensorFlow, AWS). On the management side there has been a massive change for the better with the arrival of new executives and the new CTO. Management encourages ownership and accountability and is very transparent with us on what's going on.

      Cons

The work life balance is tilted towards more work and less life - it is not crazy by any means - but it is a true startup

      Advice to Management

Stay the course. The changes over the last 6 months have been right on.

I have been working at NAUTO full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Interesting technical problem - computer vision understanding driving risk Having huge impact - 35-50% reduction in collisions for all the commercial fleets Nauto deploys into; literally saving lives Very transparent - CEO shares sales, financing, customer wins and losses with all employees at all hands; openly takes questions live and via sli.do Great food, office, team building events, benefits, Caltrain commute...

I worked at NAUTO full-time for more than a year

      Pros

      Some good people employed there

      Cons

Leadership is horrible - no experience in the space, CEO thinks he knows everything .Terrible hires, sales leadership is the worst, no direction. The product is promising but there never seemed to be anyone there that actually owned product - once the head of product left in early 2018, there was no direction

      Advice to Management

      Start looking for a job

I have been working at NAUTO for more than a year

      Pros

      - Cutting edge of computer vision/AI for driving, without biting off more than they can chew - Not trying to build a whole autonomous vehicle, instead trying to find a niche in the dashcam/safety space... thus capturing data that will be invaluable during the autonomous revolution. - Experienced leadership with a great track record of growing startups - Fun office (little stuff like happy hours and nerf battles and...

      Cons

      - some hiring missteps led to a few bad eggs, who have since been weeded out. - international customers and contractors can mean some pretty long hours and time zone flexibility, but totally depending on your role - Not many PMs so many engineers have to self-start and be their own project/product manager (this can be a pro or a con depending on how you like to work)

      Advice to Management

      - Keep things open/honest with employees. Lack of transparency had let to mystery and gossip and lower morale in the past, but things have gotten much better recently. - Notice gaps in resourcing earlier so spots can be filled before engineers become overworked. Again, also getting better at this.

I have been working at NAUTO full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Free lunch, decent benefits, nice people overalls

      Cons

Company lost more than 20 employees over last 6 months, that’s almost 20% turn over, still seem ok per management. The explanation was most of the people leaving were simply couldn’t do there job well, CEO knows it all, and too smart to talk to none Director level employees. This is a start up but runs more bureaucratic than a corporation.

      Advice to Management

Where is the sales you predicted? Where is the honesty and empowering culture you promised? Where is a truly down to earth CEO?

I worked at NAUTO full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Generally Good people free lunch & snacks

      Cons

CEO has no experience running a business (academic/consulting background) Priorities are constantly changing, sometime with no rhyme or reason No 401k match Salary lower than market No annual salary increases (this is company policy) Full bonuses never paid

      Advice to Management

Figure out what you want nauto to be and stay true to that vision. Get to know and understand what your customers want and align the roadmap to their actual wants instead of what you think they need.
