I worked at PCTEL full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good salary, great benefits, and work life balance.

    Cons

No vision from higher management on what market demand is. They ask you this one day and next on other and ultimately fire you as the product is unsaleable.

    Advice to Management

Seek an expert who can dive into where the market demand is and help you fulfill the potential of your products. With no vision, your stocks will keep diving.

    Pros

    None i can think of

    Cons

Management just wants revenue - No Strategy- Just asks employees to do- No cross functional coordination- everyone for themselves. No accountability. No resources

    Advice to Management

Spend effort on strategy and commitment to it- Don't just chase the next shiny object without thinking through resource requirements for successful execution.

    Pros

Not many. You get your paycheck on time.

    Cons

The CEO is a total control freak and thinks he knows a lot but he isn't that smart, infact he has ruined not only PCTEL but many other companies he has bought. PCTEL is a graveyard of a lot of companies. This is where the companies to go die.

The CEO controls the board and all board members are puppets. The only reason he is retiring is because some investors threatened a law suit. The reason the company is paying top dividend is so the shareholders stick around and the CEO can cash out. Just read the Yahoo Finance Conversation Tab for the PCTI stock for some colorful commentary after every earnings release.

The company culture is poison. Top management trade information like currency and only thing they are good at is keeping their jobs. The new CEO won't be any better, he is a politician and not an entrepreneur. In fact, he has pretty much failed at everything in his past.

Most employees are desk jockeys and clock punchers.

    Good benefits
Ability to work remote if needed
    Decent product line

    Cons

No stability - high turnover with their sales team
Nepotism at work - at least there was when I was there
Constant change and upheaval within the sales account team

    Advice to Management

Keep good people who are doing what is asked of them.
If company isn't doing well - its not just sales' fault

I have been working at PCTEL full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to dive into many areas of the business. Great place to get lots of experience and fast. Company has a good potential to succeed with new leadership.

    Cons

CEO is a disappointing leader. He created a culture of fear and surrounded himself with family, friends and yes-men. Terrible decisions on acquisitions, re-organizations, and market strategy. Most of the company is waiting for the board to finally throw him out or force him to retire. Just frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Man in the corner must go.

    Pros

If you are fresh out of college or if you are unemployed (and desperate) or you see a risk in losing your job and do not have a better option to go. The pay is competitive and you can surf within the organization to stay there for a long time if you keep your head low and do your job to please them.

    Cons

The CEO and the Executive Management are a joke. They have no vision, no leadership, no business acumen; no interest in keeping the company afloat and help dozens of families. It is a public company managed as a family business a lot of ill-politics; cronyism and nepotism. Only the CEO ideas are welcomed and most likely are implemented to CYA due to long history of bad acquisitions; bad business decisions and counting. No one has a real opportunity to grow within the organization. A lot of underutilized talent. No wonder corporate America is a mess with companies like this.

    Advice to Management

Step out and let real honest business people revamp the company and correct the course.

    Pros

Good projects to work on. Interesting products.

Fair compensation and good life balance for those that choose.

Mostly upfront to employes during layoffs.

    Good middle management.

    Good teamwork on lower levels.

    Cons

Executives shift roles. Often. Never replaced or held accountable for results.

Executives decisions focus on stock price more than customer.

I have been working at PCTEL full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Working at a small publically traded company you get a lot of exposure to many areas of a job you might not get in a larger business where the job titles are very specific.

    Cons

No specific job ladder available to employees due to the size of the company.

I worked at PCTEL full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent work-life balance. The low-level worker bees are a great bunch of people and work extremely hard.

    Cons

CEO is incompetent and has no idea what is going on in the marketplace. Management makes very inconsistent decisions. All their decisions are extremely tactical and have no Focus.

    Advice to Management

Think about being more creative rather than doing things the old school way. Leadership has absolutely no clue what they're doing, epecially with sales and marketing. Think outside the box or you are on a spiral downward.
