Pros

Patchwork excels at attracting highly skilled and knowledgeable individuals, particularly at non-leadership levels, who are passionate about supporting the NHS and working towards tech for good initiatives. The company values diversity and boasts a staff that represents a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. Patchwork generally offers flexibility in terms of working location, although this can vary depending on the team. Patchwork's marketing team is a standout, consisting of talented individuals who contribute significantly to the company's success.

Cons

I believe Patchwork suffers from a culture of dishonesty. In my opinion, senior leaders say things like "Honesty is where we've been going wrong as a business" or joke about pulling the wool over customers' eyes during demos. It seems like roadmaps disappear and vital information becomes a tangled mess of conflicting stories, which completely shatters trust among teams. It seems like Patchwork loves to cosplay as a modern, flexible company dedicated to tech for good. However, the majority of their customers are traditional enterprises expecting traditional waterfall processes. In my opinion, this leads to frequent clashes between teams that want to use Agile methodologies and trending product frameworks and customer expectations. The constant changes in frameworks and processes create chaos, with no clear evaluation of success metrics. Although Patchwork is technically a scale-up, senior leaders still seem to expect a level of dedication that is more suitable for early-stage start-ups. Be careful with your expectations here if you're not ready to go way above and beyond. Leaders seemingly expect employees to sacrifice personal boundaries (including childcare), work late hours, be available 24/7, and travel to hospitals across the UK at a moment's notice. Usually, that level of dedication is worth it if you feel like you're making an impact, but over here it feels like you're just another drain on the NHS. Unsurprisingly the passionate and idealistic employees who were recruited under the impression that they'll be doing tech for good are seemingly ground down and burned out within a year, leading to a high churn rate. Patchwork makes sense more as a consulting firm than a tech company. In my opinion, they prioritise building and maintaining customer relationships above all else, often neglecting the technical aspects of their product. If you're considering joining Patchwork, don't take my review or any other information at face value. Dig deeper and ask for concrete performance metrics like NPS and team-specific churn rates. Make sure the actual responsibilities of the role align with the job description, as mismatched job expectations were apparently the main reason people cited for leaving while I was there. If you accept an offer, be careful that those expectations don't change during your probation period. I realised too late that my interviewers apparently misled me about my role, the team I would be joining, the health of the product, and the state of the company. Don't be like me.

We were sad to read this post. Whilst we don’t believe this is the right place to have this conversation or get into the details, there are many elements of this review which simply are not true, so we really want to publicly support our existing team members and customers by providing a response. We want everyone's experience working with Patchwork to be positive and for each person to enjoy coming to work, and to find purpose in helping deliver our mission, so to hear this was someone's perception of working with Patchwork is deeply upsetting and disappointing. We believe we have an honest and open culture - we like to think all our teams are provided with a psychologically safe community and we enjoy being transparent and providing multiple ways for our team to feedback (for example regular anon engagement surveys, monthly 'ask us anything' Town Halls with our Senior Leadership Team, and having our key company metrics visible to everyone). We're proud to boast an inclusive and family-friendly culture - we are truly remote-first meaning we genuinely support our team's personal needs and preferences. If anyone feels this is not reflective of their experience at Patchwork, we want to hear about it so we can ensure all our teams have the same positive and inclusive experience. We are also proud of our unwavering commitment to supporting our NHS. The amazing feedback we receive from our NHS partners is a testament to this, and we are super stoked when our products and work with the NHS are recognised in national awards. So with that in mind, we would recommend to anyone thinking of joining our team or working with us to focus on genuine customer testimonials and accolades from our NHS partners and industry to understand the value we and our products bring. We'd love for this individual to get in touch with our People Team directly to safely discuss their experience working with us - as any employer would, we would much prefer employees, past and present, to reach out to us directly to give us a chance to take their valuable feedback on board and implement meaningful change. Lastly, we invite our existing team to reach out to us - your line leader, our People Team and our Leadership Team are ready to receive your feedback if there are elements of this review which you feel are fair and accurate because we'd really love to address and resolve any and all serious concerns that you have. Pros

- People are nice - Decent equipment - Helping the NHS is something everyone gets - Socials are fun

Cons

- Very top down, no real autonomy in my team - CEO is involved in everything, so much so people are afraid to do demos as he'll just pick holes in everything. - Constant change in direction with little explanation. - No real consideration for tackling tech debt or building for the future. - We just seem to build whatever the next customer tells us.

Pros

Despite the reactive and unhealthy environment, there are individuals of exceptional character within this company. Their inherent friendliness, care, and support have fostered a collective effort to establish pockets of psychological safety. My continued employment is due to the non-leadership team members.

Cons

A culture of fear, stemming from leadership actions, aims to silence internal voices and perspectives. Recent terminations, including a recent questionable instance, and dishonest client communications suggest a systemic failure in integrity and accountability. The resulting rise in employee departures and job-seeking is a direct consequence of this environment. For Glassdoor readers: The company's reliance on the 'cultural fit' narrative, as evidenced in their responses, appears to be a calculated attempt to discredit employee feedback. A 'hire and fire' strategy has been observed throughout my tenure.
