Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

    Pros

most of the colleagues are nice and the company pay the salary on time.

    Cons

the new-coming Chinese Country Leader shows no respect to the staff and always requires the staff to do something completely out of their job scale. I was passionate to work, but now I hate that man and this job!

Complete Failure of Leadership. No actionable strategic management plan.

    Pros

#1: Technology is solid as is the company vision. However these are a given in the eyes of the customer. i.e. - It needs to work and there needs to be a quantifiable return on investment.

    Cons

Pervasive misrepresentation, well below any measurable level of ethical standard, painfully toxic culture, very low morale, rampant resignations and layoffs. Local Americas leadership is being micromanaged by German / Chinese back-office and are simply along for the ride until (seemingly) stock options mature and/or contracts renew. Global CEO management style is 100% authority/compliance and completely ignorant to the fact that local markets are entirely unique. More specifically, the US market is not ready and most likely will never be ready for this type of enterprise software as the trends of best in class and open standards become more and more the decided path. Unfortunate that two very healthy US businesses had to be acquired and subsequently dismantled as part of RIB's second failed attempt at diversifying into the American markets. Very high and exhaustive turnover. Please be certain to actively network on LinkedIn, you will find a great many short and long term former US employees who can share personal experiences. All signs point towards massive retrenchment efforts at the cost of many good people.

    Avoid this company

    Pros

-Premise and mission of software for construction industry is OK, but it's not the next best thing. -Lots of events -Attractive to people looking to make their next career move through "titles" they lure you in with

    Cons

-Management seems like it's under authoritarian/direct dictatorship through global CEO (often making jokes about it as well) -Seems as if they give titles very liberally to people without the proper experience and/or leadership -People are afraid to speak up to CEO, often sitting and nodding their heads in "agreement" with whatever he has to say -Direction is given from different sources, no interchangeable medium to act upon, often leaving you very confused in your capacity -Although competent, support and marketing are completely based in China -No real company culture -There's a certification program that exists for the iTWO platform that is not linear and uniform in any way. Quite frankly, the certification program doesn't make much sense outside of training direction. The company isn't Microsoft or Oracle. -General sense of low morale among employees -Very "cliquey" at events -Cultural differentiation causes concern for business directed in America. I don't think upper management takes this into consideration for US market, particularly for current political climate -They are currently hiring people without any software experience who then dictate and direct people who actually have software experience

    Great Place to Work

    Pros

You're on the leading edge of technology. Great vision and endless opportunities to learn and be challenged. Truly global interaction with a worldwide team on a daily basis. The US team is super-sharp has a fun office atmosphere. An established company with a start-up mentality. Competitive pay/benefits.

    Cons

The work is fast-paced and the technology is ever-changing. It takes an open minded, innovative thinker to be successful which can be challenging for some.

    Pros

The construction industry actually needs modern software but this isn’t it.

    Cons

This company has no strategy to create a quality software product or commitment to that goal. The CEO runs around the world investing in companies to drive his top line revenue number but none of these companies are ever integrated and most run as standalone businesses for years with little to no coordination. The technology of the companies is seldom ever integrated either. This is just a holding company of a bunch of acquisitions that don’t even make sense. Most customers are hopelessly stranded on legacy software and can’t be upgraded nor would the new “cloud” software do half what the legacy did. The company runs on flash and PR and employees a whole staff to make videos and look the part but it’s smoke and mirrors. The software is junk and that makes happy customers and new sales growth impossible.

Vision is strong, execution is lacking

    Mar 22, 2019 - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Each of the regional teams has a strong mission-focused attitude, it was my experience that core team members would go out of their way to support one another in accomplishing goals. U.S based leadership is knowledgeable, fair, and supportive to the extent that they can be which is why 3*.

    Cons

Platform greatly lags vision. New features and functions are rolled out with any effective Quality Assurance creating the need for "work arounds", the software version of duct tape. Global leadership is the worst I've ever experienced in my career. There are unrealistic goals with extremely limited resources to accomplish them. Global CEO will randomly berate employees in front of others. Anyone can have a vision, execution is everything. Benefits are awful, pay was average.
